Windorah knows how to throw one heck of a yabby race! 🦞

Visitors from near and far made the 2026 Windorah International Yabby Races a night to remember.

It’s so great seeing people dig (seriously) deep to support our community - with the top price yabby going under the hammer for a whopping $3,000! (And then came second 😬😂).

Next stop, Birdsville Races. 🏇

We can’t wait for it it to happen all over again in 2027!

📍 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗲'𝘀 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘆

Around 90 kilometres east-southeast of Jundah lies the historic site of Magee’s Shanty, a fascinating piece of Barcoo Shire history immortalised by Banjo Paterson in his poem '𝘈 𝘉𝘶𝘴𝘩 𝘊𝘩𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨'.

The poem is believed to have been inspired by Tim McPhellamy and his ten year old son, whose family once lived and worked at the Shanty Pub before moving to Windorah. Tim later became a butcher and took over the Western Star Hotel in 1912, a building that still stands today.

A few hundred metres east of the ruins is the resting place of gold prospector Richard Magoffin, who tragically perished during a severe dust storm in 1885 while searching for water for his horses.
