Why ‘Stringy Bark Hut’ ?

We named this beautiful heritage hut after the family of 11 (including nine kids!) that originally lived here after coming to region as timber cutters, cutting sleepers from the local Stringy bark and Peppermint gums for the railway lines.

Originally built in mid 1890s, we spent several years restoring it to preserve the heritage and character using many of the original tools and techniques of the trade that would have been used when it was first built.

But of course we wanted to give it some modern comforts (including a hot running shower) so you don’t have to rough it to still enjoy it!
