Well, our last autumn cria has been born so it is now time to get serious about Stage ONE of RETIREMENT ! Reducing workload & births for 2027 is the goal. A good number of proven breeding females (many with cria at foot) will be needing new homes, and we still have a few young adult wethers available.

Sometimes it is worth the wait. La Nouba has made this enormous female cria for us. We had planned to retire her from breeding & are delighted to have this final girl. Not yet weighed but we are guessing over 12kgs…up on her feet in under 10mins, suckling under 30mins. Cannot complain about that ! Arcady La Bella 🥰
PS La Nouba is a verylarge alpaca, just to give you some size scale

UPDATE : turns out our weight guesstimate was a bit ‘hot’…Bella ‘only’ weighed in at 11.1 kgs this morning (17th) 😂

The loss of a substantial tree limb always makes me feel sad …. that is years of its life there, on the ground ☹️ This huge bough dropped today, from a very old large HEALTHY tree, located in an area that SHOULD have some subsoil moisture… this summer/autumn we have lost more large limbs off our gums, than any year in our more than 30 years on the farm.
A very sad sign of just how terribly dried-out the subsoil is, right across the board. 😭

Time to get serious about reducing our breeding numbers. This young girl is appearing as a non-breeder. After a year of trying various things, her on again / off again hormonal behaviour strongly suggests she is infertile. She has grown tall but does not have the ‘masculine’ look that many infertile girls do, so she might possibly come good but it is time for us to call it quits & focus on other animals. Offered for a good wether-price, papers available if you want to try to breed her. Otherwise she is just a pretty young alpaca in need of a new home with other alpaca friends. Located close to Mt Barker in the Adelaide Hills, SA.
Please pm me if interested. We also have young adult wethers available & some proven breeding girls too (currently open)
