You’ve seen Willow’s Retreat.

Now, meet the people behind it.

We’re Phil and Lyndel, and we came to call this place home when we had the opportunity to take over an amazing property in the Wollombi Valley.

These days, you’ll usually find us building fences, chopping firewood, caring for the horses or preparing the retreat for its next guests.

One of us is the brains behind all things horse.

The other is the brawn, chainsaw in hand.

It might not always look as peaceful behind the scenes as it does on your feed, but we wouldn’t trade this life for anything.

This is episode one of Meet the Hosts.

In the next episode, we’ll share more about what you might come across when you stay here.

Turns out, you didn’t need another productivity hack.

You needed to wake up without an alarm.

Drink your coffee while it was still hot.

Spend time outside in nature, without checking the clock.

Listen to the birds instead of another notification.

And remember what it feels like to do absolutely nothing without feeling guilty about it.

Sometimes, you need to step away from the noise completely.

Willows Retreat is less than 90 minutes from Sydney, but it feels far enough away from everything to finally breathe again.

Send this to the person who keeps saying, “I really need a weekend away.”

It’s hard to describe how happy we were to see this young wombat on one of our wildlife cameras this week. A few months ago, they looked very different; covered in the scabs of sarcoptic mange, and out in the middle of the day (normally they’re nocturnal). It’s a death sentence, and without treatment, severe mange can kill a healthy wombat within a few months. But, it’s not all bad news; with the application of a course of pour on medication, they can make a full recovery!
Thanks to the support and training of wombatprotectionsociety and Anna Yerbury , as well as a couple of local wildlife legends, this one should be cured. You may even see it (or one of its relatives) next time you stay with us!

We had a fantastic group stay this weekend, with beautifully curious kids, keen to explore and ask questions about our valley and its nature. They left the place spotless (with more than a little help from the grown-ups, no doubt), but most of all, they left us these amazing drawings. Thank you - you made our day!
