The Wombat Hotel ... Where you eat, drink and don't want to leave. 🐾
Australia’s longest continually licensed hotel — proudly serving travellers and locals since the 1800s. The Wombat Hotel was established in 1877 and holds the longest continuous liquor license in NSW. The village of Wombat is renowned for its cherry production and was an historic gold mining area with a living history display con

tained in the historic Wombat Hotel. There are still the odd remnants of diggings located on the landscape. Why don't you drop in at the Wombat Hotel for a refreshing drink and view the living history of this village. Wombat is also becoming known for its Australia Day Tractor Pull and markets and most recently, the Wombat Swap Meet on the long weekend in June.

CHAPTER EIGHT: ONE MORE MISSION

We didn't retire.

We re-enlisted.

Against decay. Against neglect. Against the idea that old places don't deserve second chances.

Over the past months, we've poured our hearts into bringing the Wombat Hotel back to life. One wall repaired. One floor restored. One challenge overcome at a time.

And somewhere along the way, something unexpected happened.

We fell in love with the process - and the area.

The history. The characters. The stories hidden within old country pubs.

So, just when everyone thought we'd finally learned our lesson...

We've bought another one.

🍻 Welcome to our next adventure: The Light Horse Hotel, Harden Murrumburrah

Like the Wombat Hotel, it's a pub with a proud history, a special place in its community and a few chapters still waiting to be written.

The Wombat story isn't over. There's still work to do and plenty more chapters to share. 🐾

But now there's a new story beginning just down the road.

A new mission.

A new challenge.

And another old pub ready for a second chance.

One wall.

One wire.

One cold beer at a time.

CHAPTER SEVEN: TAMING THE OUTSIDE

While plenty was happening inside, the outside had a story of its own.

Overgrown gardens, tired garden beds and years of neglect had left the surrounds needing more than a quick tidy-up.

So out came the gloves, shovels and wheelbarrows.

We cut back, cleared out, weeded, pruned and replanted — slowly bringing some order back to the grounds and letting the old pub shine again.

It turns out bringing a pub back to life doesn't stop at the front door.

And, like everything else around here, the garden is still a work in progress.

🌿 One garden bed. One load of weeds. One more little piece of the Wombat Hotel brought back to life.

And we're not finished yet… there are still more chapters to come. 🍻🐾

🍻 Happy International Beer Day! 🍻

What better excuse to drop into the Wombat Hotel for a cold beer, a good yarn and some great company?

Pull up a stool, say g’day and raise a glass with us. 🍺

Cheers from the Wombat Hotel crew! 👑🐾

CHAPTER SIX: LET THERE BE LIGHT (AND SAFE WIRING)

If walls could talk, the wiring would scream.

Circuits that made no sense. Switches that controlled entirely unrelated things – or had been disconnected, but no one had told the switch. Power trips that arrived without warning.

The verdict was unanimous: full electrical refit.

Kilometres of wire replaced. Every circuit rethought. The pub, at last, stopped flickering like a failing starship and started behaving like a place that was meant to welcome people safely.

📣 A special thankful shoutout to Gabe Simpson (G. Simpson Electrical) 💡🔌⚡️

CHAPTER FIVE: BRINGING THE BAR BACK TO LIFE🍺

At first glance, the bar looked much the same as it had for years.
The timber still shone. The walls still told stories. The history was all around.

But behind the bar, time had left its mark.

The floor had endured decades of foot traffic, spills and hard work. Equipment was moved - and in some cases replaced, surfaces stripped back and years of wear uncovered.

It wasn't glamorous work, but it mattered.

Because restoring this old pub isn't about changing what makes it special. It's about preserving the character while making sure it's ready for the future.

A special thanks to the community for helping to preserve and make sense of the history - especially Sharyn Angel. 🤩

One more job done.

One more chapter in the story of bringing the Wombat back to life.

🔥 And the sparks were only just beginning…

CHAPTER FOUR: THE DIRT FLOOR BATHROOM

We lifted the floor expecting trouble.

We found … earth.
No slab. Irreparable drainage. Just dirt …solid, stubborn and completely uninterested in modern plumbing.

So we did what had to be done.

We built a new bathroom from the ground up.

Literally.

Foundations. Concrete. Plumbing. Walls. The works.

Sometimes progress means starting where someone else stopped — decades ago.

Next Up: Bringing the Bar Back to Life. 🍺

CHAPTER THREE: THE KITCHEN COMES APART

We thought the kitchen needed a tidy-up.
It needed a complete pull-out.

Walls came down. Linings were stripped. Old appliances bowed out gracefully ... or not so gracefully ... making way for equipment that actually worked.

Out of the chaos came something new: a proper scullery, clean lines, functional space and a glimpse of what this pub could be.

This wasn’t renovation anymore.

This was re-construction. 🛠️

👏 Terry Bros Carpet Court
👏 Mick Dawes (Door to Door)
