A huge shout out to Kerrie and Jason for a great night at Tuskers Tuckerbox and Catering 🍲at the Mission Beach Surf Life Saving Club 🛟 on Saturday night.
Shannon Hunter 🎶 set the scene with a fabulous mix of Aussie rock, country, folk and pop from across the ages (how he can play guitar 🎸, tamborine with his foot and didg at the same time is beyond me), and of course the team at Tuskers delivered the best food ever 🍗!

Abbi is our fabulous fur-baby 🐕 —a border collie who will hit the 15-year milestone this year. We have travelled with her since we picked her up at 5 weeks old, and she loves it 😍! But, she is now a senior citizen, so we decided to share our best travel tips with you.

With a border collie with arthritis you can’t underestimate the need for a good bed 🛏️ and to allow space to travel with it. We have the TONTINE for older pets, it’s great, but takes up a lot of space. So pack it first and work out your space around it.
ᗪᗩIᒪY ᖇOᑌTIᑎE
Ok, so this can be hard when you travel. But Abbi knows walk 🐕🦺 time every morning is at 5.30am (aggh I know) 😲. Despite not being able to walk so far or as quickly, it’s essential for her mental and physical well-being, so we keep it going while we are away. (Otherwise, she won’t let us hear the end of it! 🤭)

It goes without saying that just like hoomans, Abbi’s medical needs have increased with age. Make sure you pack all your pooch needs for your trip away 💊💉and look up a good vet 🩺 at your destination, just in case.

As Abbi has gotten older, her diet has had to change. We now have vegies every night 🎃🌽🥕. This is not only good for her gut, but now she can’t chase the frisbee all day it helps to reduce weight gain. So how do you travel with this? Pre-cook, pack and freeze ❄️! If travelling for long periods, then allow for a stop with some cooking facilities 🍳. She also has special prescription dry-food, so we wither pack enough, or know where we can pick some up along the way. Having consistency in food is really important.

Unfortunately, not all of Australia has gotten with the pet-friendly program. So, we still find we have to book in advance. Think about the type of accommodation you book. Abbi isn’t great with stairs anymore 😔, so single level accommodation is a must, and somewhere that has a secure outdoor area is also great. Older dogs tire easily, so while we go out to dinner 🦐, Abbi is happy to chill in front of the teli!

Living and bedroom pods are connected by a decked breezeway, interspersed with gardens and a water feature, which captures the cool sea breezes. Our modern bathrooms also embrace our tropical surrounds, opening up onto private garden courtyards.
Fully pet friendly with concrete floors and fences, there is no need to leave your furry friend at home.
To make your stay comfortable we’ve also included:

Configuration
As a pavilion home our bedrooms are spread over two pods (buildings), however for couples or small families we offer access to just one of the bedroom pods at a reduced nightly rate. You will still have exclusive use of the property, but access to one bedroom pod only. The main bedroom pod has two bedrooms, ensuite, powder room and laundry (with washer and dryer). The second bedroom pod has 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. All bedrooms have air-conditioning, a ceiling fan, security screens on opening windows, a wardrobe, bedside tables and lamps.
Note: while there is a separate powder room with toilet and basin in the main bedroom pod, if you choose this option then all visitors will need to share the shower in the ensuite.
