Australian salmon are one of the most exciting fish to target during winter along the Bass Coast. 🎣🐟

Inverloch and the Bass Coast are well known around Australia for incredible salmon fishing, with anglers travelling from all over Victoria to chase these hard-fighting fish along our beaches and coastline.

These powerful fish travel in big schools and are well known for their aggressive strikes, fast runs, and aerial jumps once hooked. Winter often sees large salmon moving closer to local beaches and surf gutters, making them accessible for both land-based and boat anglers.

Australian salmon are commonly found around:
🐟 Surf beaches
🐟 Coastal headlands
🐟 Inlets and estuary entrances
🐟 Offshore bait schools

They respond well to metal lures, soft plastics, and fresh baits such as pilchards. Early mornings and late afternoons can produce some incredible sessions, especially when birds are working above feeding schools.

Winter fishing is seriously underrated. 🎣❄️

While many people pack the boat away for winter, some of the best fishing of the year is just getting started along the Bass Coast. Cooler water temperatures often mean cleaner water, less boat traffic, and hungry fish feeding harder.

🐟 Snapper still hanging around offshore

🦈 Juvenile School Shark landed yesterday!

Awesome little fighter and a great sign of a healthy local fishery around Bass Coast waters 🎣

These young schoolies always put up a spirited fight on lighter gear. After a quick photo, this one was safely released to grow bigger and cruise another day 👌

Nothing beats a calm day on the water, fresh sea air and seeing what comes up from below.
