✨ The Great Orion Nebula (M42) & The Running Man Nebula (NGC 1977) ✨
There’s a reason M42 is the crown jewel of the night sky, but controlling its extreme dynamic range—from the blindingly bright Trapezium core to the faint, dusty outer tendrils—is always a fun processing puzzle! 🌌
For this composite, we collected a massive 15 hours of total integration across multiple nights to blend deep broadband star colors with crisp narrowband hydrogen and oxygen emissions.
By combining short exposures to tame the brilliant core with longer broadband and narrowband frames for the outer dust lanes, we were able to bring out the vibrant pink Hydrogen alpha shockwaves and soft blue Oxygen III ionization shell while keeping the background background dark and velvety.
