The calendar might still say it's Winter, but Spring has definitely arrived in Victoria's High Country.

Victoria’s High Country needs little introduction as a cycling destination, with some of the country’s most popular mountain biking, road riding and rail trails right on our doorstep.

The Yackandandah area is no exception. In addition to our existing 60km+ of mountain bike trails at the Yack Tracks, we have projects currently underway to build an IMBA Epic mountain bike trail between Beechworth and Yackandandah, as well as the extension of the Murray to Mountains rail trail, which will link us to Beechworth, Wangaratta and Bright, all on sealed rail trails.

You could say our little town has more than its fair share of amazing riding opportunities and Red Box Retreat is located perfectly to take advantage of it all.

As passionate cyclists ourselves, we love sharing the riding our area has to offer and to enhance the cycling experience at Red Box even more, we’ve also set up a few cycling specific amenities for our guests. We’ve installed undercover bike racks, to keep bikes up off the ground and out of the elements, a bike wash station with everything needed to keep bikes clean after a wet or dusty ride, tools and pumps available for guests and a cycling mini-bar, with spare tubes, tyre sealant and supplies to keep you going in case you forget your own.

Ugh, Lockdown.

Our family is only a recent addition to Yackandandah. You could say we were part of the post-lockdown exodus from Melbourne to regional Victoria. We were lucky enough to find this property late last year and made the big move in January. So we know only too well what it's like being locked down for months on end, and how hard it can be remote schooling, living with curfews and in 5km bubbles.

While we are grateful to be coming out of lockdown, and for the open spaces, views and the fresh air that comes with living in this beautiful part of the country, we’re also eager to be able to share it again with our guests from the city, who we know have been doing it tough.

Hang in there Melbourne and Sydney. Better times are surely just around the corner.
