Micks 1st fire since coming out of hospital for the 2nd time. He spent 3 weeks in the PA Hospital. The 1st week with with a lumbar puncture drain to help with the Cerebral Spinal Fluid leak from the first surgery and then 2 weeks recovery from another craniotomy and 2nd flap from his forehead going across his eye socket.

Mick has been home for 4 days now and Me and Buddy are so greatful and excited to have him home. He is just starting to feel a bit more like him today with some good strong pain killers on board.

MICK’S RECOVERY UPDATE

We thought Mick was finally starting to get a bit further along in his recovery, but we’ve hit another unexpected bump in the road. Just under a week ago, Mick was flown back to the PA hospital via the RFDS from Kingaroy. 💔

Mick now has to go back into surgery today to fix a Cerebral Spinal Fluid leak in the base of his skull which is causing air pockets in his head and creating major migraine headaches. We are hoping that they can fix it by going through his nose however, if they cant it will be a craniotomy again. It’s another setback after everything he’s already been through, and it’s honestly heartbreaking seeing him face yet another operation.

While they’re in there, the surgeons will also be rebuilding his eye socket again, using skin and muscle from his forehead to help reconstruct the area. Then, to fix his forehead, they’ll need to take a skin graft from his leg.

It feels like the surgeries just keep coming at the moment. After a 19-hour operation, and everything else his body has been through, Mick has already fought one of the toughest battles imaginable.

But through it all, he’s still here. ❤️
Still fighting.
Still pushing forward with incredible strength.
And still holding onto his dreams.

We know there’ll be good days and really hard days ahead, but we’ll keep going through it together, taking it one day at a time, one hurdle at a time, one step at a time, surrounded by as much love and support as we can.

Update for Mick, so cool to see him up and about......sort of ♥️

Mick's Recovery Update ❤️

The last few days have been really tough for Mick.

He finally had the drain removed from his leg, which is one small step forward. We're also hoping the stitches from his craniotomy can come out today.

Unfortunately, the area where his eye was removed has been bleeding quite heavily today, and he's been in a lot of pain.

At around 3:00 am this morning, Mick was so exhausted, overwhelmed and hurting that he was almost ready to walk out of the hospital. He hasn't had much sleep, with nurses, doctors and physios needing to wake him regularly throughout the day and night. Recovery after such a massive 19-hour surgery is proving to be incredibly challenging.

Despite everything, Mick is still fighting, one day at a time.

Mick's Goal: Back Around the Campfire

If you know Mick, you'll know he loves nothing more than hitching up the caravan, getting out into the bush, sitting around a campfire, and enjoying the simple things in life like a beer in his hand or playing his guitar.

Right now, that dream feels a long way off.

After a 19-hour operation to remove a rare cancer from his face and skull, Mick is beginning the biggest journey of his life—his recovery. It won't be easy, and along the way he will need a prosthetic eye and teeth fittings, ongoing medical care, and other recovery costs.

But he already has one goal firmly in his sights...

To get back to camping as soon as he possibly can.

Every step he takes in recovery is a step closer to that first camping trip. A place where he can sotting around the campfire and Crack inappropriate jokes.

Today marks another step in Mick's recovery after an incredible 19-hour surgery.

The surgeons have done an amazing job, but Mick's journey is only just beginning. He's currently in ICU, and while they're trying to wake him, his body is still fighting hard after such a massive operation.

There will be many months of recovery ahead, followed by radiation treatment. During this time, the financial pressure will become overwhelming, with the cost of prosthetics, ongoing treatments, travel and accommodation expenses etc.

Yesterday was a very long and emotional day.

Mick 's surgery lasted an incredible 19 hours, and we can't thank the surgical team enough for the amazing job they did. Their skill and care have been nothing short of incredible.

Mick is currently in ICU. When we visited today, the team was trying to wake him, but he wasn't quite ready. He became very restless, was thrashing around and trying to get out of bed, so the doctors decided to sedate him again. They'll try again tomorrow when it's safer for him.

Seeing him for the first time was confronting, even though he honestly doesn't look as bad as I'd imagined. He is clean shaven now and his face is very swollen—so much so that Drew and I actually walked straight past his bed without recognising him.

The surgery itself was enormous. The craniotomy went well, and although he has a large incision from his ear to the top of his head, the surgeons have done everything they can to minimise scarring by following the natural creases in his face. They have removed his eye and sewn shut his eyelid until his eye is healed enough for a prosthetic.They reconstructed his cheekbone using bone from his leg, which is now in a cast and moon boot, and used tissue from the top of his thigh for the palate reconstruction. He also has an incision across his neck.

As hard as it is to see him like this, we're grateful to be told he's doing as well as can be expected after such a massive operation.

I've been sent home to get some rest and will be calling the hospital around 9:30 tomorrow morning after the doctors have done their rounds. I'll update everyone when I know more.

Well, this is it. Micks admission day with surgery starting at 6am tomorrow morning and finishing about 7.30 - 8.30 tomorrow night. Its a big one. Mick is just taking it one day at a time now. He is incredibly brave and we all love him so much ❤️ ♥️ 💗 💖
