So .... horror alert: Spider video.

For the last 12 weeks or so, this beautiful young lady and her boyfriends have been a long-term guest at the house )not the cottages.... one of the things Cheviot Glen has done is irreversibly given Alister and I a reverence for the wildlife (and I don't mean we've become party animals!). From the echidna, kangaroos, ducks, pelican, turtle (tragically now deceased) and insect life to the minute frogs, cacophonous cockatoos and cicadas, and yes, the occasional legless reptile slipping through the property. It's the country! What can you expect! Please watch, if you can, this wonderful video of nature's progress. Warning, adult themes, violence and low level s*x scenes!!

Well, we are feeling a little soggy around the edges today as we had a magnificent downpour of 67.5mm over the last two days. Hopefully it will encourage green growth in the rather parched paddocks and dams in a few days time! We are welcoming lots of guests, but the weekend before ANZAC day is still available if anyone is looking for an autumn break .... hi e us a call ....

Thanks to Christina Wright for this gorgeous little video taken of some wren behaviour in the cottage garden last week.

The grass is green, the dams are full, the cows have calved and restrictions are due to be eased on the 8th. Can't think of a better reason to come and stay to shake off the Covid blues.

We are taking extra precautions to our already super-conscientious cleaning regime to reduce the risk of infection - masks and glove-wearing, deep cleaning and sanitising.
We are waiting to welcome you!! Alison and Alister

An amazing Sunday walk of 10km today and to start with I really couldn't put my finger on 'why?'
Finally realised what it was ...
Be still and know that I am God....
With all the restriction and it being early on Sunday morning there was an absolute silence except for nature: birds, frogs, cows .... no traffic from The Melba nor the Goulburn Valley (Hwys). It was almost eerie but definitely spiritual.
Would love to have taken a 'sound snapshot'.... you will need to make do with this picture of one of the wonderful trees on the property taken yesterday to send to a friend in Stage 4 restrictions in the city who wanted some 'green air'.'
Just breathe' everyone.
Stay safe.

Well, are we excited?! We have an island in the big dam. For many many months our big dam has been masquerading as a little dam. Now with all this fabulous rain since April we are excited to report that the little island giving refuge to varying types of wildlife over the seasons. The rest of the dams are full to overflowing. YEA!!!

Well it finally happened!
On the way to Church we spied a very special guest on our somewhat depleted dam. Sadly when I got out of the car to record the event, the six rams shut away in the dam paddock because we have 2-legged guests, thought it was time to come out and one, then another trotted eagerly to the gate with an enthusiastic 'is it time look' on their faces. Sorry guys, you weren't the attraction this time! :( I'm not sure if the pelican's 'beak will hold much more than it's belly can' on our dam at the moment ...

Well, following some good falls of rain coming down the grass is coming up and a bright winter green (it may even have been convinced by the unseasonably warm weather that spring might be on its way!! )
This morning on the way to church we spotted 7 kangaroos on Wombat Hill trying to warm up on the slope as the ice was defrosting in the early morning sun. Then just as I was watching them watching us, several more bounced on the scene and then several more - enough to make me start counting (quickly) with my mouth open in astonishment as I started rounding off the count at forty! If I hadn't learned sometime ago that a group of kangaroos was a mob, I could almost swear they were a corroboree (?). Flabbergasted at the number! I think the only time I have seen such a number was on Hepburn Springs/Daylesford golf course. I am sorry to say I didn't take any photos I was that surprised at the number! And, as Alister pointed out, they seem to meld with the grass whatever the colour!
