The Whales have started to arrive Visit Capricorn Coast, Queensland

🐋🐋Over 35,000 humpback whales travel along the "Humpback Highway" on Australia's east coast each year. They migrate north from May to August to mate and give birth in warmer waters, and return south with newborn calves from September to November, frequently traveling close to the shoreline. 🐋🐋

🤫Keppel Bay is a premium, uncrowded destination along the "Humpback Highway" where whales enter shallow, protected waters to rest, mate, and play. Humpback whales pass through the bay between July and October, with peak activity and newborn calf sightings concentrated in August and September.

Getting out on the water provides the closest encounters against the backdrop of the Keppel Islands.

The primary dedicated on-water option departs directly from the Keppel Bay Marina, located a short 10-minute drive south of downtown Yeppoon.

🥗Whale Watching Lunch Cruise: This official 3-hour seasonal experience runs during peak months (August and September). The vessel departs at 11:00 AM on Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, charting a course through the migration path while offering an onboard buffet lunch and expert commentary. You can book tickets directly through the Keppel Bay Marina Office.

🏝️Island Eco-Tours: For a faster, small-group adventure, the Keppel Explorer departs daily from the marina. While their main objective is island hopping and snorkeling, their captains frequently pause or redirect the rigid inflatable boat to watch whales breaching just meters away.
