One of my favourite parts of our days here is hearing people tell us how much they love the changes we’ve made.

It’s not a pride thing. We just genuinely put so much thought and love into the spaces we’re creating for you.

We think about how comfortable we hope you’ll be. How rested we hope you’ll feel. How much you might enjoy the beauty from every viewpoint.

I’ve been wondering why it feels so meaningful to see children visiting Lavendale discover where food comes from.

Perhaps it’s grounded in connection—to the land, to nature, and to the understanding that we’re all part of a living ecosystem. It’s an idea that becomes easier to grasp when children experience it for themselves.

This reflects our hope for Lavendale—to be a soft place to land, where you can slow down and reconnect amongst nature.

What happened to screen time?

Somewhere between building Lego on the verandah, playing a game and heading off to explore, the kids forgot to ask for it. It’s something we’ve noticed that parents tell us often about their stay at Lavendale.

Our lovely old ram is always first in line for a head scratch.

It makes us happy to see the 2 week old twins becoming more used to us day by day. This is the closest they’ve come so far.

This humble little painting in my art journal has given a gift.

The painting itself is irrelevant, imperfect and I’m already quite bored of it, ready for something new before it’s finished.

However, it had a beautiful purpose.

As I mixed the colours and placed the brushstrokes, this journal page gifted me quiet moments, and the bliss of focusing fully on the beauty of nature.

This is the heart of what we dream for you to find at Lavendale Country Retreat; space to slow down and reset as you find your own moments of peace.

(There are little tucked away places to sit - you might want to pack your journal!)

Top five ways farm life in York changed my winter wardrobe! 🥶

1. If it doesn’t have a pocket, it’s going to have to fight for wardrobe space privileges.
2. Keeping my ears warm takes precedence over appearances. 🙉
3. Boots are no longer chosen based on whether they will make a dress look cute.
4. I’ve discovered hoodies are practical—not annoying.
5. I can’t wear leaf patterns because Emmy tries to eat them.

Sometimes I don’t recognise myself 😂 but the rest of the time it’s lovely being more connected to the outdoors.
