Yorketown Caravan Park

Yorketown Caravan Park Yorketown caravan park is central to the southern Yorke Peninsula. A gate way to the bottom end! We are pet friendly and welcome everyone to our park.

A great place to make a base and explore coast lines to the east, west and south.

The Yorketown Salt Lakes are one of the most distinctive natural attractions on the Yorke Peninsula. More than 200 shallow salt lakes surround the town of Yorketown, creating a landscape that changes colour with the seasons and weather. Historically, these lakes supported a thriving salt-harvesting industry, particularly during the early 1900s. At its peak during the First World War, around 57,000 tonnes of salt were harvested in a single year before the industry declined in the 1950s.

Today, the lakes are the highlight of the Yorke Peninsula Salt Lake Trail, a self-drive route featuring interpretive signs, lookouts and short walks. Visitors can see lakes displaying shades of:
• Pink (caused by salt-loving algae and microorganisms)
• White (crystallised salt)
• Blue and silver (when filled with water)
• Orange and purple (depending on light and salinity)

These colours can change dramatically throughout the year, making every visit different.

Highlights
• Pink Lake – one of the most photographed lakes.
• Par Lake – the starting point of the Salt Lake Trail, with a boardwalk and information shelter.
• Lake Sunday – another scenic stop known for reflections and birdlife.
• Four self-drive trail options ranging from about 15 minutes to 90 minutes.

Best time to visit
• Sunrise or sunset for the richest colours and reflections.
• Winter and spring often provide fuller lakes and abundant birdlife.

The salt lakes are also culturally significant, located on the traditional Country of the Narungga People, who cared for this landscape for thousands of years.
