A sad announcement for all our beloved past guests and friends of The Doctor's House. Today is our closing day. We have been honored to host almost 8,000 travelers over the last 5 years. You consistently reviewed us as a home away from home and repeatedly told us that you fell in love with Sarajevo during your stay. Thank you all.

The hostel will be looking for the right new address in the coming months and years, but for now, just a final word of advice - Come back, friends. The hostel has moved on for now but the city is here... Sarajevo was always the best part of us anyway. We sure are going to miss that view though!

You’ve heard from us about the growing craft beer scene, but now I’m letting the cat out of the bag about Sarajevo’s new whiskey producers. Make a visit to Pivnica Semizburg during your stay to try the new best whiskey in town. Step back, Jack!

Our guests are the best. And the best of our guests are the Warmshowers bikers we host as they trek across the world on two wheels. Thanks to Jude and Astrid for the fresh baked focaccia bread today. Wow!

"Remember the Sarajevo Olympics? Well those ski slopes are still going strong but now with modern lifts installed. Fly to Sarajevo and a short transfer takes you up the mountain. It was under €100 last year for a five-day ski-pass, good cheap food and drink for lunch and in the evenings, friendly people. Ski Sarajevo arranges packages, but it’s not that hard to do it yourself."

Less-obvious locations in eastern Europe offer great-value, though our readers reveal bargains in quiet ski resorts in the Alps, too
