Mother’s Pallu
(The Loose End of a Mother’s Saree, chadar or dupata)
At school, the teacher said:
“Write an essay about your mother’s pallu.”
Then one student wrote so beautifully about it. If you read this completely, your heart will overflow with emotion… 😭

"Respected Teacher,
A mother’s pallu was always there to give her a graceful dignity.
It was with her pallu that she lifted hot vessels off the stove.
She used it to wipe her children’s sweat and tears, clean their ears, and wipe their faces.
After meals, the happiness children felt when their faces were wiped with their mother’s pallu was something truly special.
Sometimes, if dust entered a child’s eye, mother would twist the pallu into a small roll, warm it with her breath, and gently place it on the eye — and somehow, the pain would disappear on its own.
For a child sleeping in their mother’s lap, her lap was the bed and her chadar,s pallu was the blanket.
When unfamiliar guests came home, children hid behind their mother’s pallu.
And when they felt shy, it was this same pallu they used to cover their faces.
Whenever they went outside, they held onto their mother’s pallu while walking — it was their guide.
As long as they held onto that pallu, the child felt as though the whole world was safely within their grasp.
During winter, mother wrapped her child from all sides with her pallu to protect them from the cold.
And when heavy rain poured down, the pallu became an umbrella shielding the child’s face from getting wet.
It also served as a towel to wipe hands.
Mother used her pallu to gather fallen fruits and fragrant flowers from beneath the trees.
At times, she would stretch out her pallu to receive offerings, or prasadam.
It even helped dust and clean the household items.
If something went missing, mother would tie a knot in her pallu, and we were always certain the lost item would soon be found — and somehow, it always was.
The knot tied in mother’s pallu was like a moving bank or a safe. Like a blessing of fortune, children would sometimes find little coins hidden in it too.
A mother’s pallu/chadar is a magical experience — something today’s generation may never truly understand.
Now, for a mother who wears jeans…
where will there be a pallu or chadsr to hold onto?
This is dedicated to all the mothers who gave us the comforting shade of their love wrapped in a saree, Dupata or chadar…💐

Beckett has a great point about how fragile optimism can be, and how it doesn't take much for the noise to creep in.

Taking a step back for a bit was really helpful to just clear the head... It’s good to be back looking at things with you again!

I want to share something with you about why the days of Dhul Hijjah days are so different from anything else in the year, because once you understand what Allah designed them for, you'll feel their weight in a completely new way, insha'Allah.

Hajj, at its core, is a rehearsal for *Judgment Day*.
Allah chose the most barren, uncomfortable, unworldly place on earth for this gathering. There's no reason to go to Makkah that is worldly. It's burnt rock. It doesn't compete with California or Hawaii or anywhere else.

And that's exactly the point.

The discomfort, the crowds, the heat, the fact that nobody is treating you like a VIP, all of it is by design. Because on Judgment Day, as Allah says, everyone will come before Him as an individual. No status, no recognition, nothing.

Hajj is the biggest gathering you will ever be part of and you will never feel more alone. Just you and Allah.

These ten days carry that same spirit, even for those of us who aren't making Hajj this year. They are days of restraint, of checking what's inside us.
The Arabic word ‘Hijr ‘ حِجر, which Allah uses in the very oath of Al-Fajr, comes from the same root as barrier and restraint.

It's the word for the kind of intellect that stops your desires from running loose. That's the exercise of Dhul Hijjah. Not just more worship and ibadah, but a real reckoning with what's unchecked inside of us.

The point of Ramadan or these 10 days ( the 2 most important seasons of worship ) is to increase our Taqwa and introspection.
For us to take a good look at what we need to change inside us

It doesn’t matter how much we fast or pray or how many animals we sacrifice( and may Allah accept it all from us), but if we don’t feel the need to make our intentions purely for Allah, improve our nafs and character, & give up sins, then we are MISSING the POINT…

May Allah guide our hearts in these blessed days🌺
