Two Rooms in Bruges

For five centuries, the city crane stood at the Kraanplein. This gigantic wooden colossus lifted very heavy boxes and man-sized wine barrels into and out of the ships. ⛵ The original crane has long since disappeared, but a smaller replica can be found in the Wulpenstraat. Have you discovered this hidden gem at the edge of Bruges' historic city centre yet? 😀

If you look down from the Ezelbrug, tiny gardens cling to a row of stately bourgeois houses along Speelmansrei. 🪴🌱 Romantic gems on a layer of ...
..silt. 😉 Over the centuries, the canals gradually silted up. The soil washed ashore became part of the city's tax land. For a small fee or 'cijns' (tax), residents were allowed to create a garden there.
