Bruges can feel completely different depending on how you experience it.

For day trippers arriving at the same time, the city can seem crowded. But staying overnight tells another story: peaceful mornings, quiet canals, and the chance to enjoy Bruges long after the crowds have gone.

That’s the beauty of slowing down and experiencing the city like a local, not just a visitor ✨

Stay a little longer. Discover the quieter side of Bruges.

During a walk through Bruges, I came across a piece of my childhood. 😊

This beautiful Neo-Gothic gymnasium, designed by the Bruges architect Louis Delacenserie, instantly brought back so many memories. As a young boy, I not only learned gymnastics here, but I even learned how to tie my shoelaces.

What a joy to rediscover this hidden gem after so many years. The impressive timber structure and authentic atmosphere make it truly unique.

Does anyone know where this historic gymnasium is located in the heart of Bruges? 👀

This summer, Bruges tells its story in a truly spectacular way.

From 1 to 11 July 2026, the iconic Belfry of Bruges becomes the stage for "Het Belfort Vertelt", a free evening light and sound show that brings the city's rich history to life.

🌊 At 10:45 PM, A Story of ebb and flow explores Bruges’ centuries-long relationship with the sea, from the silting up of the Zwin to the city's remarkable cultural revival.

🏰 At 11:15 PM, The Story of Bruges takes visitors on a journey through the history of Bruges and Flanders, highlighting the city's important economic and international role throughout the ages.

With 22 performances over 11 magical evenings, this unique experience is not to be missed. Many thanks to 11 Juli-Komitee vzw

More and more of our guests are adding an extra day to their stay to explore the Belgian coast. And if you're travelling with children, here's a lovely local tradition to look out for. 🌸

On the beaches, children have been making colourful “beach flowers” for generations using crepe paper, wooden sticks and wire. During the summer, they set up small flower stalls and ‘sell’ their creations to other beachgoers. The best part? These flowers aren’t bought with money, but traditionally exchanged for seashells. 🐚

This unique coastal tradition is so special that it was officially added to the Flemish Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2021.

On Friday 28th August 2026, we will be welcoming a very special guest: Koen Goeminne, historian and author of The World of Marcus Gerards: Bruges in 1562, among other works. Using the iconic map of Marcus Gerards, he will guide our guests through the story of Bruges as it appeared nearly five centuries ago.

The idea for this came from a previous post, which revealed that one of our guests has this very map hanging in their living room in the United States. That moment sparked something. When you realise that several long-stay guests share such a deep and genuine interest in the city and its history, it only makes sense to bring that story directly to them.

This approach aligns perfectly with the philosophy of Reizen naar Morgen: not reducing visitors to numbers, but connecting them meaningfully to the place, its story, and its people. Bruges deserves visitors who want to know its story. And that story deserves to be told.

DDK improvements - Part 2

A final round of upgrades, and we are proud (and happy) to say it’s done.

Both Acadia and Clarissa received their last refresh to fully meet our standards. We’re proud of Lore, who carefully coordinated the works throughout every phase. Under her guidance, Vanhecke Elektriciteit Domotica Automatisatie, Dreamworks and PJS Installatietechnieken delivered the final finishing touches with great attention to detail.

Additionally, our holiday rentals St-Donaas, St-Jan, OLV and Carmers were upgraded with brand-new sofas by Stevens Meubel, elevating both comfort and design.

1️⃣ Very thorough maintenance. This also includes descaling all coffee machines. Tom once again proves himself as the descale champion as we’re doing this four times a year.

2️⃣ Our baby cots have been renewed. We also provide high chairs and children’s tableware, so families can travel lighter.

3️⃣ In apartment Carmers, the shower had been upgraded to a walk-in shower. The glass wall will be installed soon to complete the look.

4️⃣ At St-Niklaas we’ve replaced the dishwasher with a brand new one.

5️⃣ Adding an extra layer of insulation and crepi, allowing us to renew the terrace floor in a next phase.

6️⃣ The seatings of Carmers, OLV, St-Jan and St-Donaas have been removed. What’s coming next will be revealed later!

This is just part 1 - more updates coming soon.
