We could buy yoghurt anywhere. We buy it from a farm you can cycle to.

The yoghurt on our breakfast buffet is made at De Kasteelhoeve Moerkerke, just outside Bruges. It is on the table by half past eight.

Next to it: Delphine's homemade jam, cheese from the Damse Kaasmakerij, and biscuits from Bakkerij oud huis Deman. It is all there because we know who made it. Breakfast under a medieval vault should taste like the ground it is from.

Save this for the next time someone asks where to eat breakfast in Bruges.

The kettle is back on. From this week tea is served again in one of our favourite rooms: the Art Deco lounge. An afternoon of Cream Tea, the classic Afternoon Tea, or celebratory ch*****ne. Served with Delphine's platter of home-baked delights.

The last of the big summer crowds left on Sunday. The good weather did not.

September is the quieter half of the season in Bruges. The ‘Markt’ thins out after six, the water goes still, and there is room on a terrace again without having to wait for one.

Our garden is still open. Breakfast is still laid out under the vaults of the medieval cellar and the walk from our front door to the Church of Our Lady is still the length of one song. Opulent rooms in a 17th-century bishop's palace, in a city that has just exhaled.

Delphine's blueberry muffins go into the oven before the first guest is awake. The sweet smell finds its way up through the hotel long before anyone's dressed. By the time you reach the breakfast table you already know what you're having.

Enjoy our blueberry delights, fresh from the oven, every morning.

From 4 to 6 September, the Bruges canals become the stage for something amazing!

The Reiefestival brings us theatre, dance, concerts and performances to unexpected corners of our city. Places that spend most of the year as ordinary streets and courtyards, turn into festive venues for three days. This second edition takes ‘Current’ as its theme: everything that moves, connects and inspires.
