Next years wine on the vine, to be harvested later on today. Not quite the bounty of previous years, but we have a plan.

I'd known about the Museum in Devnya for a while, and had heard about the high quality of it's Roman mosaics and artefacts, but hadn't yet gotten around, to making the 10 minute drive from the Rustic Bulgarian Villa, to visit there. Last October when, entertaining family, at the Rustic Bulgarian Villa, I decided to take them along to visit Devnya Museum. We were very impressed by what we found and saw there. I hadn't seen such intact Roman mosaics, with such vibrant colours, preserved and presented so well. Devnya Museum allows the visitor to get up close to these treasures and enter into the mindset and perspective of the people that created them and inhabited this area, during the reign of The, Roman Emperor, Constantine The Great, (although it's thought an even earlier encampment existed here before then, which was destroyed during the Gothic invasions in 250-251). In short Devnya Museum is well worth a visit and is only 10-15 minutes by car, from The Rustic Bulgarian Villa.

My family and I have been bathing in this place for a few years now, as families have done for millennia. It's always been an energetically, amazing and rejuvenating destination and in spite of it's previously tired and crumbling 50's interior, We have Loved it, none the less.

The good news is, it's just had a multi-million лв total, rebuild, and is now a unique, 1st class spa, resort, complex. As well as the geothermally heated, natural spring water pools, there's now also a range of therapies on offer, including steam rooms, hammam, whirlpool bath, saunas, balneotherapy and a lot more. It's a great place for all the family to re-energize. "It had our approval before the makeover, now it's like spending an afternoon in Heaven. I cannot recommend this place too highly".

The Petrified Forest, (or perhaps, Fossilised Methane Vents) at Pobiti Kamani, between Varna & Devnya (nr. Slanchevo), is, now, a UNESCO, World Heritage Site. It is a 15-20 minute drive from The Rustic Bulgarian Villa, half way to the beautiful city of Varna.
