Sitio Meteora, home to the paradisiacal place of retreat that we have already begun to call "Meteora EcoEscapes", is a rural property located in Serra do Capim, in the north of the state of Rio de Janeiro, in a valley with steep rocky slopes in the heart of the Atlantic Rain Forest, approximately two hours from the city of Rio de Janeiro.
Encouraged by the beauty of the land and by the potential of the rocky valley, the owners, Chris and Vera Tayler built the infrastructure that makes Meteora unique. That act encouraged the reforestation of the hillsides. They have develop and improve the property year by year by extending the range of fruit trees and ornamental plants, making the dirty road and driveway safer during the rainy season,
The surrounding land is mainly formed by pasture for livestock that also invades part of the Atlantic Forest and the ridges of the hills that make up the Meteora. The reason for the presence of pasture in the area is that it was used for cattle grazing until the late 20th century. Different areas of the Meteora have different types of trees and plants, depending on the terrain and depth of soil, etc.
There is also in the back and side of the main house a wide range of fruit trees, including a citrus orchard, a banana trees, mangos of various species, passion fruit, and cashew, Lichia, cupuaçú and countless more exotic and rarer fruits. The vegetable garden serves the table of the Main house and of friends who visit it.
A stream runs through the property, providing water for irrigation and service. A spring, whose quality of water comes close to the quality of mineral water, serves the house and its guests. The air is pure, one hundred percent unpolluted, as evidenced by the lichens found on rocks and trees. The climate is ideal, with temperatures ranging from 15 to 32 degrees Celsius, approximately; not as hot as the city of Rio de Janeiro, and not cold enough to require an ambient heater.
The center of the valley is landscaped with a mixture of mature native trees and ornamental plants, framed by rocky walls,which is ideal for the practice of Rappel, bordered by the woods. In this valley is located the main house - also known as the Casa Grande (Great House) or Casa de Vidro (Glass House), ninety per sent built with Ipe wood and glass. Its front is framed by a swimming pool that brings into its waters the blue of the tropical sky. Apart from that, there is also a pool of running water near the guest houses and a fish pond at the bottom of the property.
The fauna of the region is rich, and can be found in the region an immense variety of birds and wild animals, including brown and gray jaguars, foxes, wild dogs, quatis, irara, black monkeys, sago (small monkey), squirrels, armadillos and others.
The stone walls, the presence of the Mata and the mountains gives inspiration to adventure activities like para-paint, zipline, rappel as well as other activities, that would enrich Meteora EcoEscapes. Those activities have already been planned and will be soon installed with the latest equipment in safety. In addition, all the team that worked with these equipment is already being properly trained to offer adventure with total security.
Trails have been opened from one side of the rock walls to the other, which surround the valley and hide the main house, to the tops of the ridges either side of the valley for the more adventurous visitors (the climbs are arduous and strenuous and involve a climb of about 500 metres, taking about two hour each way, and good walking boots are recommended).
Security matters such as improvements in the paving of the small road that goes from the porter to the main house, because in the rainy season the stretch presented a danger of skidding of the vehicles that traveled through it and an internal circuit of monitoring by CCTV cameras were installed in strategic locations, from the main gate. were taken to make it into a safe place.
Meteora EcoEscapes is located approximately 3.5 kilometers by dirt road of the main highway - BR116, crossing an arm of the well-known Sao Francisco River, passing through the regionally known waterfall of Palmeiras. The BR116 access is in kilometer 20. It is 20 kilometers south of the mining town of Alem Paraiba, and approximately 60 kilometers from Teresopolis, a mountain town in Rio de Janeiro and two hours from the city of Rio de Janeiro. The road to the site is a dirt track that, although perfect in times of drought, becomes quite slippery in times of tropical storms. This feature of the road has attracted extreme sports.

O Sitio Meteora, sede do paradisíaco recanto que ja começamos a chamar "Meteora EcoEscapes", é uma propriedade rural situada na Serra do Capim, ao norte do estado de Rio de Janeiro, em um vale com inclinações rochosas íngremes, no coração da Mata Atlantica, a aproximadamente duas horas da cidade do Rio de Janeiro.
Um córrego atravessa a propriedade, fornecendo água para a irrigação e serviço. Uma nascente, cuja qualidade de água chega perto da qualidade de água mineral, serve a casa e seus convidados. O ar é puro, cem por cento despoluído, como prova os liquens encontrados nas rochas e nas árvores. O clima é ideal, com as temperaturas que variam de 15 a 32 graus Célsio, aproximadamente; não tão quente quanto a cidade de Rio de Janeiro, e não frio o bastante para requerer um aquecedor de ambiente.
O centro do vale é ajardinado com uma mistura de árvores maduras nativas e plantas ornamentais, e com um paredão de rochas, ideal para a pratica de Rappel, limitados pela mata. Nesse vale está localizada a casa principal – tambem conhecida como a Casa Grande ou Casa de Vidro. Sua frente é moldurada por uma piscina que traz para dentro de suas aguas o azul do ceu tropical. Fora disso, existe ainda uma piscina de aguas correntes perto das casas de hospedes e um lago de peixes no fundo da propriedade.
Existe uma grande variedade de árvores de frutiferas, entre as quais, um pomar de cítricos, um bananal, mangas de várias espécies, maracujá, e caju, Lichia, cupuaçú e um número incontavel de frutas mais exoticas e mais raras. A horta serve a mesa da casa grande e de amigos que a visitam.
A terra circunvizinha é principalmente formada de pastagem para o gado que tambem invadem parte da Mata Atlantica e os cumes dos montes que compoem o Meteora. O sitio foi usado para pastagem de gado até o século passado. Os proprietários precedentes viram o potencial do vale rochoso e construíram a infrastrutura do córrego, o lago e as casas, facendo dali o seu segundo lar. Essa ação incentivou o reflorestamento das montanhas.
Os proprietários, Chris e Vera Tayler, replantaram arvores nativas, aumentando o número de árvores frutíferas e de plantas ornamentais. Foram abertas trilhas de um lado ao outro dos paredões de pedra que contornam o vale e escondem o sítio (as trilhas são árduas e envolvem uma escalada de aproximadamente 300 metros).
Providencias foram tomadas visando o aumento da segurança da propriedade, tais como melhorias na pavimentação da pequena estrada que vai da portaria ate a Casa Grande, pois na estação chuvosa o trecho apresentava perigo de derrapagem dos veículos que por ela trafegassem e circuito interno de monitoramento por cameras CCTV foram instalados em localizações estratégicas, desde o portão principal.
Todas as trilhas, o arvorismo, a tirolesa, bem como todas as outras atividades que enriquecerão Meteora EcoEscapes, ja foram planejadas e serão instaladas com equipamentos de ultima geração no quesito segurança. Além do mais, toda a equipe que trabalhara com os referidos equipamentos ja está sendo devidamente treinada para ofercer aventura com total seguranca.
A fauna da região é rica, podendo ser encontrada na região uma variedade imensa de pássaros e animais selvagens, incluindo onças parda e pintada, raposas, cachorros do mato, quatis, irara, macacos preto, sagui (um macaco pequeno), esquilos, tatus e outros.
O sitio está localizado a aproximadamente 3.5 quilômetros por estrada de terra da Rodovia principal - BR116, cruzando um braco do conhecido Rio Sao Francisco, passando pela regionalmente conhecida cachoeira das Palmeiras. O acesso da BR116 é exatamente no kilomentro 20. F**a 20 quilômetros ao sul da cidade mineira de Alem Paraiba, e aproximadamente a 60 quilômetros de Teresopolis, cidade serrana do Rio de Janeiro e a duas horas da cidade do Rio de Janeiro. A estrada para o sitio é uma trilha de terra que, ainda que perfeita nos tempos de seca, torna-se bastante escorregadia em tempos de tempestades tropicais. Essa caracteristica da estrada tem atraido praticantes de esportes radicais.
