So we are at the Coral Beach now, settling in our vacation mood, beginning to relax and forgetting the hustle and bustle of the busy working life in a big city :) The hurricane Mathew is behind us. The weather is nice, a little on a cool and windy side but sunny :) The beach is beautiful as usual :)
The apartment has not suffered any damage, we lost a window screen, but this seems to be all. Most of the units are back to normal with a few exceptions, where the owners haven't be back yet and who don't have a property manager. Relatively minor things in the hallways need to be fixed. The bigger issue is the roof - metal side covers need to be replaced -you see them broken, and some railings on the common terraces which need to be repaired, so the access is not allowed, other things still need to be fixed or repaired, but a lot of work has been already done.
Pool restaurant and bar are open and back to business, pool is working and all chairs, lounges and tables are back. In the garden most of the trees and bushes are gone and it looks very bare, trees along the shore and the gardens of the beautiful villas look dead and empty, but little new shoots start to emerge and everybody is waiting for the spring for them to turn back to green.
Coral Beach now is quite busy, with many owners and guests back, it is nice to see everything alive. We did our little walk to Port Lucaya and were happy to see that everything is open and looks nice and clean. There hasn't been much visible damage in this area. I would say that the hurricane affected the buildings which were older or shabby and the ones facing the ocean directly. The newer buildings withstood it very well. It will take some time still for everything to go back to where it used to be. Everybody is looking towards the spring, when the trees and greenery reclaim their ground, the two big hotels on the beach reopen and the rest of the debris cleaned up!
We shall be leaving this Saturday, and of course we are sorry already that we have to leave so early!
