The Bahamas is composed of over 572 islands and cays, each unique and beautiful in their own way. Dorian hitting The Abacos and Grand Bahama has made all of us spring in to action to help the residents keep the "Island Attitude" of resilience, positive! Eleuthera along with all the rest of The Beautiful Bahamas was left unharmed. Please Escape to Eleuthera & the Bahamas! My wife and I had a wonderful stay at the sand dollar cottage. The house was very clean and in terrific condition. We had some initial trouble with the water in the bathroom but we let the owner know and it was immediately taken care of. Just a few minutes walk to an absolutely gorgeous and mostly deserted beach. During the entire week we were there I only saw two cars drive down the road. If you want quiet and seclusion sand dollar cottage is the place for it. The cottage was surrounded by trees and brush and there were loads of migratory warblers surrounding us. We also saved a lot of money by buying groceries and cooking for ourselves in the big open kitchen. We made the walk to Pascals resort just down the road to avail ourselves of their internet and to have drinks around the amazing pool bar. We greatly enjoyed our stay at sand dollar cottage and it was my first time using air bnb. It was one of my most relaxing vacations in a long time. March 2016

Our stay in Sand Dollar Cottage was fabulous. Even before our visit Rachel was very helpful in arranging a car rental and orienting us to the island so that when we did arrive we knew what to expect. The cottage is just as described and perfectly comfortable for a couple. The kitchen was well equipped and we enjoyed cooking most of our meals at home. The house sits on a private drive, a perfect getaway and only a 5 minute walk to one of the most beautiful "private" beaches we've ever seen. Rachel and her caretakers Barry and Chad were readily available during our stay and especially helpful when the power went out on the whole island during a enormous rain storm. Friend's of Rachel's were friendly and welcoming as well. We truly felt welcomed and at home on the island. I would encourage renting a car (if staying anywhere on Eleuthera) so you can easily get to town and explore the island. Pineapple Air and Bahamas Air both have easy and cheap flights to nearby Governor's Harbor. Arrange a car rental ahead of time and they will meet you at the airport. From the house you can walk to the beach or a nearby resort for food and drinks, but getting to town for groceries is a few miles. Don't miss the Friday night Fish Fry in town. We simply loved Eleuthera and the cottage and look forward to returning! January 2016

Escape to Eleuthera! Eleuthera offers as much adventure or as much relaxation as you wish. You will feel welcomed by the residents that you have chosen their island as your get-a-way. You will be treated with respect to your privacy or engaged in colourful conversation by very laid-back but not backwards locals. Sand Dollar is ideally in the center of the island and half way between Governor's Harbour and the Airport. Drive north to Harbour Island Dock in about an hour (Harbour Island is then a short water taxi ride) or all the way south to Light House Point in a little over an hour. A gated private paved drive off The Queen's Highway takes you to Sand Dollar Cottage nestled on 1 acre lot. A three minute down the hill has your toes in the the pink sands of Banana Beach. A twelve minute walk takes you to The Sky Beach Club offering sea side Pasquel's Bistro for the days you do not wish to cook, live entertainment, infinity pool and wifi. Sand Dollar is newly renovated in simple classy style keeping with Island life and getting away from it all. Docking station for your iPod, board games and books to enjoy as you laze on the veranda or swing in the hammock. The settlement of Governor's Harbour is 5 minute drive where you will find all you need including fresh fish at the dock, sea front coffee shop, traditional Bahamian restaurants and takeaway, grocery & liquor stores, banks and laundry mat.
Enjoy great eating with fresh organic produce/baking/sauces/dressings fron The Island Farm, fresh fish and lobster in season from the dock in Governor's Harbour or other towns you will discover, bread, key lime pie, rum cake are but a few baked from "scratch" delights at Dale's bakery.
There are several quaint oceanside restraunts & bars. Sky Beach Club offers relaxing poolside bar and Bistro w WIFI only a 12 minute walk from The Sand Dollar. The Buchaneer Cafe in Governor's Harbour has excellent Bahamian food with a beautiful outdoor dining deck. French Leave Marina hosts 1648 (appropriatley named for the year Governor's Harbour was settled) & Tippy's on the Beach all feature nightly entertainment. Car rentals are friendly and reliable. Caretakers Lachandra and Barry will be happy to 'steer' you where you need to go!
