A termite mound with dual-purpose

For this leopard, it is lookout and refuge in equal measure. A place to rise above the grasses and read the landscape or to retreat into shade when the heat gets a bit much.

Resting, but watchful.

"After spotting several lionesses on the move earlier in the day, our guide led us to the den - where a bundle of cubs lay huddled together. Most lounged in the warmth but one stayed alert, ears perked, keeping watch." - David Edelstein

The beauty of a sighting isn’t always in how obvious it is.

Sometimes it’s rosettes settled so seamlessly into a tree they feel part of the bark or a shape threaded through long grass, revealed only when it shifts.

Seclusion, reimagined.
Like a golden weaver’s nest, your suite rests lightly above the papyrus, private and elevated. From your deck, the Okavango stretches as far as the eye can follow.

Curiosity versus calm.

"A pride of lions watches an elephant bull from the top of a fallen baobab tree. The elephant seems either oblivious to or completely unconcerned by the lions’ presence. The younger lions appear intrigued by the sheer scale of him." - Damen

Born in Etsha 13, on the edge of the bush, Richard Leitseng grew up fishing from a mokoro, collecting reeds and learning animal behaviour from his parents. The Delta was his classroom.

Now an assistant head guide, he is known for his curiosity and depth of knowledge. If he cannot answer a question, he writes it in the notebook he keeps in his shirt pocket, finds the answer, and returns with it the next day. “In guiding, you never stop learning,” he says. “I like being asked questions that challenge me to dig deeper.”

His poling skills and upbringing in nature led to his first guiding role at Nguma Island Lodge, where he guided guests through the waterways and later became head poler. After studying hospitality and tourism in Maun, he joined Ker & Downey Botswana in a support role before joining andBeyond Nxabega as a guide in 2014. Nine years later, he transferred to andBeyond Sandibe.

“Being a guide,” he says, “is about reading guests as well as animals.”

The bush always leaves clues.

"Joel, our tracker, was amazing. He was looking for animals on our first safari at Sandibe, when he saw an eagle and a bateleur close to each other. Since both of these species don't usually hang out together, he knew there was something in the bush. We drove there and we found this beautiful leopard relaxing after eating an impala in the tree. It was incredible, not only to see the leopard, but how Joel found it.." - Fernanda

From Maun to the bush kitchen.

Theo Keaitse grew up as the unofficial food taster for his mum and aunts, learning flavours around family fires. He trained from scratch at a small restaurant near Maun airport, watching travellers return from the Delta and dreaming of cooking in the bush.

A chance meeting changed everything. After asking about vacancies, Theo joined andBeyond Nxabega as a junior chef in 2017, moving to andBeyond Sandibe in 2019, where he is now sous chef.

“When I began, I didn’t even know what arugula was. I’ve had great mentors along the way. Working here has been life changing.”

Today, you’ll find him elevating familiar flavours. Eggs Benedict with seswaa, fresh pasta and steaks sizzling over the fire on boma night.
