Each bird has a โ€˜flight initiation distanceโ€™: how close a person or predator can get before the bird flies off.

Instinctually, their discomfort tells them that itโ€™s no longer safe. We apply this to all living things on safari. At each wildlife encounter, a safe and respectful distance is kept, while still allowing for the best possible sighting.

Trust is built on respect and keeping a safe distance.

September was a wild month at Deteema ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿฆ’

Our 24-hour Africam livestream captured some incredible wildlife sightings. Big moments included two lions taking on a buffalo, plus sweeter ones like a giraffe grazing on a tasty snack. As always, we also saw loads of elephants enjoying the fresh water from the spring in front of camp.
