The Delta is never still.
Even between seasons, there is movement – a breeze lifting feathers, grasses shifting, the light changing by degrees.
Look a little closer, and the signs are everywhere: a bird preparing to breed, a nest taking shape, the first stirrings of summer.
The Delta has its own way of telling you what comes next.

It’s been a while since we last found our Tree-Climbing Pride in the trees. But every so often, they remind us why they earned their name.

In the Delta, where water, reeds and shifting channels shape the landscape, survival calls for a certain ingenuity. These lions have learned to use the trees to their advantage – a little higher, a little cooler, with a different view of the world below.

It’s one of the many ways wildlife here continues to surprise us: adapting, experimenting and finding new ways to thrive in a landscape that is always changing.

The Delta leads.

It shapes the wildlife that moves through it. The people who know its rhythms. The flavours that emerge from its surrounding landscapes. And the way each day unfolds.

Born of this extraordinary place, Xigera set out to reimagine what a safari could be. Not simply a place to see the wild, but an invitation to experience it differently. To slow down. To notice more. To move with the natural rhythm of the Delta.

A lodge that sits lightly within the landscape. African art woven into the spaces you inhabit. Food that brings a sense of place to the table. People whose warmth turns somewhere you stay into somewhere you belong. And the freedom to let each day become entirely your own – Your Safari. Your Story.

We are deeply honoured to be named Botswana’s Leading Luxury Safari Lodge 2026 by the World Travel Awards.

A recognition that inspires us to keep asking what is possible when the Delta leads the way.

The wilderness comes first.

Xigera sits lightly above the Delta’s waters and grasses, with pathways and spaces that bring you quietly into the landscape.

Here, privacy never means separation. The wild is always close: moving, breathing, unfolding around you.

Beneath it all, a quiet promise to leave the lightest touch.

Today, on World African Wild Dog Day, we reflect on one of the Delta’s most extraordinary inhabitants – and the remarkable way wild dogs find their place in the world.

Bound by instinct and an extraordinary sense of togetherness, they move as one – each generation learning from the one before it, each new life carrying the story forward.

Here in the Delta, we have the privilege of watching that story unfold. Our guides have been following a new generation closely, as the pups grow stronger, more curious and increasingly drawn towards the world beyond their den.

For a species whose future remains uncertain, there is something quietly profound in watching them find their place. A reminder that if we create space for it, wildness can endure.

Perhaps the greatest wonder of the wild is that it never needs to explain itself.

Its beauty is inseparable from its intelligence. Every form, every instinct, every adaptation shaped by a wisdom far older than our own.

To witness it is to remember how much there is still to wonder at. At Xigera, the Delta's wisdom isn't something you simply observe. It is something you feel all around you.

There are nights in the Delta you wish could last forever.

High above the floodplains, The Baobab Treehouse offers one of them.

From its highest deck, the landscape stretches into the distance. A herd of elephant quietly makes its way across the grassy plains below, and as the sun disappears, the sounds of the Delta begin to rise around you.

Stay for a sundowner. Linger beneath the stars. Then let the night carry you to sleep, with nothing between you and the wilderness.

This is the rare privilege of experiencing the Okavango from within it, and awakening at one with its rhythm.

Ostriches cannot fly, but apparently they do swim.

As Ben Seager, our General Manager, put it: “I have had the privilege of watching lions, leopards, and even wild dogs swim across the Okavango Delta channels… but this was a first. Following this flock of ostriches, which out of the blue took to the water like ducks — an unexpected sighting.”

Nature never stops surprising, and the Delta always has a new story to tell.

Swipe to see the video footage by Ben Seager of them crossing.

From the air, the Delta's story comes into focus. The water reveals the landscape's hidden contours and as it retreats, islands that were suspended beneath the flood only weeks before begin to emerge. The scale of the season becomes unmistakable, revealing not just where the water has travelled, but everything it has made possible in its wake.

The water gives even as it leaves, setting in motion new cycles of life and redrawing the Delta once more.

The Delta’s Ancestral Passage is an invitation to slow down. A Xigera overnight journey into the heart of the Okavango, where moving by mokoro, sleeping beneath canvas and sharing stories around the fire reveal a quieter, older and more intimate relationship with this extraordinary wilderness.

To move at the Delta’s rhythm.
To experience one of the world’s last great wildernesses through the eyes of those who have called it home for generations.

Shaped by the conservation work of National Geographic Explorer Dr Steve Boyes and Nkashi Trust, the Delta’s Ancestral Passage from Xigera Safari Lodge is guided by generations of knowledge, revealing an Okavango few will ever experience.
