***COPPER BANK VILLAGE AND CHUNOX VILLAGE IN COROZAL TO BE CONNECTED BY CLIMATE RESILIENT LAGUNA SECA FIX BRIDGE***

COPPER BANK VILLAGE, COROZAL
Copper Bank is a fishing village in the Corozal District of Belize. It is situated on the west bank of Laguna Seca, a shallow lagoon that empties into Chetumal Bay just north-east of the village. The closest settlement is Chunox, located approximately 1.25 miles away on the east bank of the Laguna Seca.
Access to the village is possible by road from Orange Walk, via the villages of San Estevan and Progresso. It is also possible to reach the village by road from Corozal, crossing the New River via the Pueblo Nuevo ferry, and from the populated community of Sarteneja, via a ferry across the mouth of Laguna Seca.
The village has been suggested as the site of a lost Mayan town, Uatibal, and several artifacts have been found in the vicinity.
CHUNOX VILLAGE, COROZAL
Chunox is a village in the Corozal District of the nation of Belize. Chunox is located on the east bank of Laguna Seca towards the south end of the lagoon at an altitude of 3 meters above sea level. According to the 2000 census, Chunox had a population of 1,143 people.
Chunox Village is served by St. Viator Vocational High School. While the official language of Chunox is English most residents of Chunox primarily speak Spanish due that most of the inhabitants are from Maya Mestizo ancestry.
While the nearby settlement of Copper Bankβsituated across the lagoon from Chunox, on the west bankβis a fishing village, Chunox is primarily agricultural, and it is surrounded by sugar cane fields. There are several Maya residential mound groups in Chunox that appear to date from the Classic Period.Chunox is also connected to the Mennonite community of Little Belize.
The Government of Belize through the funding of the Government of Taiwan is currently building at 27 mile climate resilient asphalted road with properly designed culverts and road infrastructure, including the Laguna Seca Bridge and the Pueblo Nuevo Bridge. The road is designed to connect Corozal Town to Sarteneja Village and attract many opportunities in tourism and tourism related investments.
