I’ve been fortunate enough to travel all over the world. Seen beautiful countries, beautiful cities and beautiful beaches.
But I was born in Placencia.
I work hard, and most of the time work has me somewhere outside the village. So last night I decided to take a little outing right here at home with my wife.
Started at Chillpoint with an amazing bottle of Pinot, and then over to Chicken Joe’s. I really love the outdoor seating here. Nothing complicated. Just sitting outside with my family, enjoying a Placencia evening.
Placencia has its ups. It has its downs. We have things we need to improve, things we need to protect, and plenty we still need to get right.
But I’m always happy to spend my money here.
I’ve travelled enough to know that beautiful places exist all over this world. Still, there is something different about sitting down in the village where you were born, with your family beside you, and simply enjoying home.
No place like Placencia.
P.S. The crispy chicken burger at Chicken Joe’s is absolutely delicious.
I’ve had a hard time finding a bad burger anywhere on the Placencia Peninsula. Barefoot has some of the best burgers around, but when it comes to a crispy chicken burger, this is the best one I’ve had so far.
Until somebody dethrones it. 😂
And remember, folks, almost every place in Placencia has something unique about it.
Placencia is not a major nightlife hotspot, and personally, I don’t think it needs to be.
What Placencia does have are smaller, more intimate places. Beach bars, restaurants, outdoor seating, live music, places for families, places to hang out with friends, places for a quiet drink, and little corners where you can simply sit down and enjoy the Caribbean evening.
There really is something here for almost everyone.
And stay tuned, because there are so many more places around the Placencia Peninsula I want to show you, especially as we head toward Placencia Restaurant Week in November, which also happens to be my birthday month.
I want to do these a little differently.
No rushing through a restaurant just to produce content. No trying to make every place look or feel the same.
Just my family and me visiting places we genuinely enjoy, trying the food, enjoying the atmosphere, and sharing what stood out to us.
Because one of the things I want people to understand about Placencia is that our restaurants do not need to compete by all being the same.
Some places are great for a quiet dinner.
Some are perfect for sitting outside with a cold drink.
Some have excellent burgers.
Some shine with seafood, Belizean food, breakfast, cocktails, ambience, live music or simply the people running the place.
That variety is part of the experience.
There are a lot more places worth discovering on the Placencia Peninsula, and over the next few months, I plan to show you some of the ones my family and I keep going back to.
No hype.
Just Placencia, as we actually enjoy it.
