Learning beyond the classroom! We were delighted to host University of Belize students at our bed and breakfast for an immersive educational experience.
During their stay, they explored the rich biodiversity of our area, learning about the endangered Scarlet Macaw, the challenges in protecting them, and their seasonal movements. We also introduced them to local flora like the cacao and balam trees, complete with a taste of the fruit.
It was a pleasure sharing our knowledge and seeing their enthusiasm for conservation and community-based learning. Thank you for choosing our place for this meaningful experience!

Scarlet Macaw Bed and Breakfast started in 2003 with the name Scarlet Macaw group but in 2009 to its current name. The group is legally registered and has its base in Red Bank Village in the Stann Creek District. Scarlet Macaw Bed and Breakfast came into existence to help protect scarlet macaw population and their habitat, planting trees and nesting areas for scarlet macaws. Moreover, it promotes the cultivation of cocoa, the making of traditional chocolate and eco-tourism.
In 2009, the Scarlet Macaw Bed and Breakfast (SMBB) was formed in Red Bank Village, in the Stann Creek District; and is currently expanding. The plan is for the bed and breakfast to be formalized to operate under the Belize regulations for business operations. Acquiring relevant license such as accommodation licenses, food handlers, and social security contribution. It will be registered as a non-governmental organization governed by a committee with members.
SMBB has been robust in partnering with agencies such as Belize Audubon Society (BAS), Belize Tourism Board (BTB), European Union (EU), University of Belize Environmental Research Institute (UB ERI), Programme of Belize, the Small Business Development Centre Belize (SBDCBelize) a unit of the Belize Trade and Investment Development Service (BELTRAIDE) and lately, Indigenous and Peasant Coordinating Association of Central American Community Agroforestry (ACICAFOC) to name a few.
Scarlet Macaw Bed and Breakfast (SMBB) offers lodging facility, nature trails and guiding service. Guests have the opportunity to do trails on a valley and enjoy amazing breathtaking sceneries, visit the cacao plantation, participate in the chocolate making process, view the scarlet macaws (seasonal) or take a refreshing bath in the Swasey River.
We plan on becoming a destination of choice for back packers from Europe and America, Belizean tourists and students who are looking for a place to relax and recharge. It will be important for us to be visible to those potential guests.
