One of the coolest birds to discover in Belize.

The Northern Potoo looks exactly like a tree stump while it rests during the day — perfectly still, perfectly camouflaged. It’s one of the rainforest’s most fascinating nocturnal birds, and seeing one in the wild is always a special moment.

This one was spotted on a private guided morning hike on our property, thanks to the sharp eyes of our amazing birding guide Jason Mai, who loves sharing the hidden wonders of the jungle with our guests.
