Belize is home to the Antillean manatee, a subspecies of the West Indian manatee. They’re herbivores, can weigh hundreds of pounds, and spend much of their lives slowly grazing on aquatic vegetation.

Despite their size, manatees are surprisingly quiet and gentle—and Belize is considered an important habitat for them in the Caribbean.

If you're lucky enough to spot one, enjoy the moment from a distance. They've been spotted at Hol-Chan a lot lately!
