Have you heard the news?!

This week the Government of approved a policy that will legally ban offshore exploration in all seven areas that make up the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System area, the second largest reef system in the world.

The decision will effectively exclude the entire World Heritage area from any future oil exploration and make the site consistent with the World Heritage Committee’s position that oil exploration is incompatible with World Heritage status.

Today, November 19th, is the most important day in the Garifuna calendar. On this day, Garifuna Settlement Day, the arrival of the first Garinagu to Belize by dory (dug-out canoe) is celebrated in all Garifuna communities in the country, with hosting thousands of visitors for the celebration.

Belize wouldn't be the same without our Garinagu brothers and sisters and today everyone at Fantasy Island Eco Resort and Isla Marisol Resort wish all our Garifuna friends and family the happiest of celebrations!
