A Summer to Remember – Homestead Cottages, Then and Now
He was just ten years old, a wide-eyed boy from the city spending the summer with his Aunt at the Homestead Cottages. Now 75 and living in Oregon, he recently shared these treasured old photos and memories that have stayed with him for a lifetime.
He remembers the feeling of the sun on his back as he swam for hours in the clear waters of Boshkung Lake. The highlight of every day was sprinting down the dock, heart racing, and leaping into the deep blue – again and again, never getting tired of that perfect splash.
Evenings brought their own magic. He and his cousins would pile into the old station wagon and head out to the Maple Lake dump – not for trash, but for the black bears that would wander in from the forest. They’d sit quietly, windows cracked, watching in awe as the bears lumbered into view under the fading sky. It was thrilling and a little scary – the kind of memory that sticks with you.
Now, decades later, he's looking back with such warmth. These moments, captured in faded photos and shared stories, remind us of what Homestead Cottages has always been about – simple joys, family traditions, and memories that last a lifetime.
We’re so grateful to have so many families return year after year, creating their own special memories. Hearing stories like his is a beautiful reminder that we’re not just a place to stay – we’re a part of people’s lives.
We are truly blessed ❤️
