Due to the wildfires in Quetico Provincial Park and surrounding areas, on July 13, 2026 the Quetico Park Dawson Trail Campground and offices were evacuated, and all Quetico backcountry was closed. Backcountry visitors were and are requested to leave the area immediately. On July 16, 2026, once Voyageur Wilderness (VWP) had evacuated our last guests from the interior we closed VWP Islands and properties and evacuated to the mainland.

We are currently on Evacuation Alert (Fort Frances 15) and we await further instructions and updates. Everyone’s safety is our top priority, and we will keep you advised. Should anything change, we will post an update. We will reach out to all our reservation holders or feel free to email: [email protected]

OPP NW Region: “For your safety and the safety of emergency responders, people are strongly encouraged to: stay away from affected areas and refrain from attending wildfire scenes…”

Quetico Provincial Park: “Public safety is our top priority. We will reopen the park as soon as its is safe to do so.” “Affected reservation holders will be contacted and given a full refund or the opportunity to change their reservation (on availability) with no penalty.”

A big thank you to our guests, friends and community members for reaching out over the past week. We appreciate all your support!

We’d like to give special credit to Quetico Park Management & Staff, Niobe Lake (Volunteer) Fire Department, MNRF staff & Conservation Officers, OPP and our surrounding community members, for their support and coordination in helping get visitors out of Quetico Park and residents in impacted areas. We also recognize the VWP Team & volunteers for your dedication while working with us during this challenging & stressful time.

Please keep the Air & Land Firefighters, and all emergency services personnel engaged in these fires in your thoughts.

Also, our thoughts are with all who are impacted: our friends, neighbours, colleagues & communities, during evacuation and these tumultuous times. In our immediate area, to Gakijiwanong Anishinaabe Nation (Lac La Croix First Nation) who were evacuated: our hearts are with you.

🔴 Armstrong*
🔴 Collins First Nation*
🔴 Gakijiwanong Anishinaabe Nation* (Lac La Croix First Nation)
🔴 Gull Bay First Nation*
🔴 Lac des Mille Lacs First Nation*
🔴 Whitesand First Nation*
🟡 Ignace
🟡 Pickle Lake
🟡 Rainy River District - Quetico, Crystal lake, Atikokan and Niobi Lake area
🟡 Upsala
* under evacuation

In addition, the following highways are fully closed in both directions, with the exception of some local traffic evacuating the area:
⛔ Highway 599 – between Highway 516 and Mishkeegogamang First Nation
⛔ Highway 527 – between Gull Bay First Nation and Armstrong

The following highway has been reopened, however wildfire crews may be present in the area. Motorists are urged to drive with caution and avoid non-essential travel.
✅ Highway 11 – between Highway 633 and 623

The OPP reminds the public that wildfires are dynamic and unpredictable. Fire behaviour, including the size and direction of a wildfire, can change rapidly due to weather conditions and other factors.

For your safety and the safety of emergency responders, people are strongly urged to:
• Stay away from affected areas and refrain from attending wildfire scenes to take photos or videos
• Avoid boating and standing where water bombers are actively fighting the fire so they can safely complete water drops
• Remain calm and follow all evacuation orders and emergency instructions issued by local authorities
• Avoid non-essential travel in affected areas
• Monitor official sources for the latest information and evacuation updates
• Remain away from evacuated areas until authorities have advised it is safe to return
• Help keep roadways clear so emergency personnel can carry out their work safely and effectively
• If evacuating, bring essential medications, identification, important documents, mobile devices and chargers, and any items required to support the needs of family members and pets

The OPP recognizes the significant impact evacuations and wildfires can have on individuals, families and communities. Our thoughts are with everyone affected during this challenging time, particularly those who have been forced to leave their homes and communities. The OPP remains committed to working alongside emergency management officials, Indigenous communities, municipal partners and the MNR to support evacuation efforts, protect lives and property, and help ensure the safety and well-being of residents and visitors throughout the region.

For information on the coordinated emergency response, contact the affected municipalities.

^pia

Ontario firefighting aircraft and FireRanger crews are responding to multiple new fire starts and heightened fire behaviour as hot, dry conditions and high winds continue in the Northwest Fire Region. Report a forest fire at 310-FIRE.

07/13/2026

As of this afternoon, there are 84 active fires across the Northwest Region. We are closely monitoring this situation, actively responding and assigning resources, including air attack, to manage current fires.

The wildland fire hazard is high to extreme across large areas of the Northwest Region. Please use extreme caution with all outdoor activities to help reduce the risk of human-caused fires. We’d like to remind the public that outdoor burning rules are in effect: ontario.ca/outdoorfirerules.

Smoke may be visible in parts of the province. While not all fires are currently impacting communities directly, smoke may still affect local conditions.

You can find information on fire activity and hazard conditions on our interactive fire map: https://www.lioapplications.lrc.gov.on.ca/ForestFireInformationMap/index.html?viewer=FFIM.FFIM&locale=en-CA.
