Story

The Luckenbooth is the most romantic symbol of love dating back to 17th century Scotland. A heart and crown fashioned from gold or silver (for good luck, of course) is made into a brooch and bestowed as a token of affection and friendship. As the legend goes, the Luckenbooth has a particular power to ward off mischievous fairies and keep you safe along your travels.

The Luckenbooth Bed & Breakfast is a charming and friendly homestead by the sea, located directly on the Cabot Trail in St-Ann’s Bay. Your hosts, Gary and Donna-Lynn, are waiting to welcome you to beautiful Cape Breton with a heaping helping of “Caper Hospitality”. Wake up to your choice of a wee bite or a full breakfast of Donna-Lynn’s home cooking and local baked goods. Or start your day the Cape Breton way and enjoy Donna-Lynn’s signature Full New Scottish Breakfast, complete with a tattie scone, square sausage and her famous New Scotch Egg. Gary loves to share his local “Caper Insights” and can help you find all the best local eateries, artisans, beaches and maybe even a hidden waterfall or swimming hole…

The Luckenbooth offers accommodations in four unique guest rooms, each with it’s own story and inspiring ocean views of the Atlantic and St-Ann’s bay. After a day of discovery and adventure out on The Trail, you can relax with a good book and get lost in the expansive view out across the ocean, from the comfort of the upstairs Luckenbooth Library. You can also explore the grounds and watch for many of the birds (and perhaps even a fairy or four) that also call The Luckenbooth home. No stay at The Luckenbooth is complete without a visit to Evangeline’s Beach; over a thousand feet of private pebbled beach is yours to enjoy, just steps from your room…
