nism̓aakqin (Our Land). Update: Campfire Prohibition Rescinded in the ḥaḥuułi

The Huu-ay-aht First Nations Government is in support of the Coastal Fire Centre and Parks Canada's decision to rescind the Category 1 Campfire Prohibition effective Friday, May 15, at 12:00 PM, due to favourable weather and low wind forecasts.

At this time, we will not be imposing any local Category 1 prohibitions within the territory. Citizens and Visitors, please know that Category 2 and 3 open fires remain prohibited.

⚠️ Safety Rules:
• Small Fires Only: Max 0.5m x 0.5m (Category 1).
• Prohibited: Category 2 & 3 open fires remain banned.
• Be Prepared: Keep 8L of water or a shovel nearby.
• Full Extinguish: Ashes must be cool to the touch before you leave.

Effective at 12 p.m. PDT on Thursday, May 7, Category 1, Category 2, and Category 3 open fires are prohibited across the Coastal Fire Centre. The exception is the Haida Gwaii Forest District, where Category 1 campfires are permitted.

These measures are being taken to reduce the risk of human-caused wildfires associated with open burning activities.

This prohibition will remain in place until October 31, 2026, or until it is rescinded.

Always check with your local government before burning, as they may have their own prohibitions in place.

Tomorrow, April 15, Bamfield and Huu‑ay‑aht community members are invited to join the ACRD and Huu‑ay‑aht First Nations for a tsunami preparedness event.

🕦 Siren sounds at 11:30 am — head to your muster station
🍴 Free lunch at the House of Huu‑ay‑aht at 12:15 pm
🤝 Food, culture, and info booths for all ages

📣 Bamfield & Huu‑ay‑aht residents — come Hike to High Ground with us!

This year, the ACRD has partnered with Huu‑ay‑aht First Nations to raise awareness about tsunami preparedness. Join us for Hike to High Ground, a community event focused on safety, learning, and connection.

🚨 The tsunami siren will sound at 11:30 am on April 15. When you hear the siren, please head to your designated muster station.

🍽️ After the hike, everyone is invited to enjoy a free lunch at the House of Huu‑ay‑aht, starting at 12:15 pm. All are welcome! Come share food and culture, visit informational booths, and learn more about local organizations, services, and emergency preparedness.
