After three years the Mountain Madness Relay returned and we entered two teams made up of staff members: the HI Juniors and HI Seniors. ↓↓↓

The Juniors took home third in their category and the Seniors... . . . . Well, let’s just say we’re hoping for the chance to redeem ourselves in 2027! 🙈 Special shoutout to HI Seniors’ super speeder runner Abi who had an excellent time for her leg (she missed the group photo unfortunately!).

From what I could tell, this is at least the third time we’ve participated (it’s been around since ’76!). We had a team in 1995, 2023, and now 2026.

Many thanks to the team at Town of Banff for their hard work in planning and hosting, as well as the volunteers who cheered us on along the way. We’ll be showcasing our competitive edge yet again on Thursday, April 9th, with the 4th Annual Dodgeball Tournament! Register a team and meet us there. 😎🏆

It’s the first day of Spring, and if history has taught us anything the next 8 weeks in Banff should be something like this: 🎢😵‍💫❄️🌼☔️😎🐻🌬️🐛☀️☃️

With crampons to borrow for free, join us for one of our weekly group hikes, including the spectacular Johnston Canyon every Saturday. Spring is just around the corner, and places like the canyon are gonna start looking different week-to-week. (Curious what activities and events are running when you get here? Send us a DM for the rundown!) 🥾🥾🥾

A lot of places in the rockies feel completely different throughout the seasons, in particular: WATERFALLS. Wapta Falls is already spectacular in the summer, but in the winter it has so much dimension and drama with its changing ice formations. For details on how to access the trailhead in the winter, comment below! 💎

Hope you’re enjoying Family Day! 👯‍♀️ We’ve got the Barclay sisters to thank for setting up Canada’s first hostel, in nearby Bragg Creek in 1933 (for 25 cents a night!). Catherine and Mary Belle’s efforts eventually became a volunteer-run network of hostels in the region, and later, HI Canada. In 1997, we were fortunate enough to welcome a 96-year-old Mary Belle Barclay to the newly-renovated HI Banff Alpine Centre, where she remarked, “this is a far cry from sleeping on a plank of wood with canvas walls and apple box cupboards”. Though that still sounds like a great way to hang out in the mountains, we’re grateful for their sisterly intrepidness almost a century ago!

🕰️ Long before The Traitors (and before it was named Cougar Pete’s), our coffeehouse was the spot for all of our theme parties, including this Mafia Murder Mystery from January, 1988. (Recognize the pair of skis on the wall? They’re still up to this day!)
