6 years ago, one of our sons was into his 7th year of his figure skating career... like so many other mothers I would get up at 4:20 am, drive 45 minutes to the arena and cheered him on till the practice was over. Over the years, it took a toll on all of us. An idea came to buy a house close to the Mariposa Scho
ol of Skating in Barrie, where he trained... For a few years we hosted figure skaters from as far as Mexico, Spain and Australia. Great times, beautiful memories. Today, my now-grown kid works with Royal Caribbean Cruise lines and travels the World. I'm no longer the "Skating Mom" to kids from all over the World. But my passion for people still burns hot. Over the last few years, our "Mariposa" home has welcomed new, upcoming skaters, families "between" homes, and those who are just "trying Barrie for size”, We’ve met Snowbirds returning from their Winter travels who just wanted to stop over before their frozen-still cottage could welcome Summer visitors... and those who just needed a bit of time to repair their strained relationships, or those who needed some quiet time to work on a pressing project without distractions from their "life". Some of the situations have opened my eyes wider, and taught me that I can help more people that I ever thought possible. So here we are...
