🧣That’s a wrap on a packed summer at Stonehill Cottage!

We’ve barely had a free weekend.

🍁 But fall is here!

This is the perfect time to book your getaway.

There are no mosquitoes, and the days warm up nicely.

The house is clean, comfy, and fully equipped with 3 queen beds and a fully decked out kitchen.

Cozy up to a backyard campfire with a glass of wine and a blanket.

Hike down to the pond which is super low due to a dry season, but chock full of birds and wildlife.

White herons have returned, and we have a pair of trumpeter swans visiting regularly.

The woods are easy to navigate on 3.5km of trails.

If you make it all the way to the bunkie and sauna in the meadow, you can congratulate yourself on making it all the way to the back of the ‘back forty’.

There’s lots to see and do around here in the fall.

🎄Every year I promise myself (and hubs) that this is the last time we do battle with this manky old tree.

Over 12 feet tall, 200 lbs (I swear), and developing a who-ville like lean at the top.

Out goes the couch that normally sits in that corner to make room.

But once it’s all set up my resolve to replace it goes out the window. 😍

Mr. has a spotting scope that he’s been using for everything but hunting.

Most of the time it’s set up in the corner of our dining room, facing west where we can just spot the Sager’s Lookout tower.

Sometimes it’s hauled to the front porch so we can quietly watch the turkeys and deer eat apples in the orchard.

Last night we hauled it out to the bunkie and watched the full moon rise over the east side of the meadow.

🪐 While we were at it we checked out Saturn!

Well it’s been a minute since we put anything on here!

Since my last post was of the pond barely thawed out, I thought maybe you’d like to see it now in all of its August glory.

Our guests enjoy coming down here for a paddle. It’s easy to launch our 2 canoes from the dock.

It’s also the best way to get a look at the beavers, ducks, herons, kingfishers, turtles, minnows, and the occasional otter.

Hope you’ll visit soon!

Closing dates don’t quite match up?

Contact me if you need a 1-3 month stay in our fully furnished, 3 bedroom 2 bath fully renovated stone farmhouse.

Our competitive monthly rate includes utilities, yard and snow maintenance, plus access to 118 acres of trails, forests and wetland.

All just 5 minutes outside of Belleville.

👉 Please note that you could secure a long term lease in an empty executive bungalow for less.

Trust me, I know.

Our price isn’t THAT kind of competitive.

But you’ll move your furniture 3 times instead of 2…and you’ll pay utilities on top of the monthly rent.

It comes down to the cost of the aggravation.

🤔 Lock yourself into a long term lease when you really don’t need it?

🫣 Pay rent plus $250-$300 in utilities and cut the grass too?

🫠 Move your furniture three times?

Or simply pack your bedding, towels and the kids’ favourite stuffies and move in for a couple of months.

Our Back 40 retreat has been up and running for some time now, but the Mr. and I have had a really hard time deciding if we’re ready to share it.

🤔 Is it cozy enough?
🤔 Will people get bored out here?
🤔 Will they love it as much as we do?

We just don’t know…so we’ve kept it for ourselves. Trust me it hasn’t been hard. We use it all the time. 😆

But if you don’t mind being a test case…then why not bid on a getaway weekend in our Back 40 Bunkie & Sauna?

We’ve donated a 1 or 2 night stay (your choice, same 💵) to the Online Spring Auction.

All the money goes to a great cause, you really do get a great couple of days away in nature, and we get some good honest feedback.

Listen. We know staying in a hotel with your kid's hockey team has lost its sheen.

Mini-sticks tournaments in the hallway outside your door at 1:00am.

The non-stop chatter of kids high on sugar and pre-game nerves.

Races to the elevator and then back to the room for someone's forgotten phone and then back to the elevator...

😒 I'm not a hockey parent but I've stayed in these hotels.

And if this is your jam...then you do you. But if you're really just looking for a solid night's sleep ahead of tournament day, why not stay with us the next time your in Belleville or Trenton?

Share a warm, comfortable, well-equipped home away from home with a couple of other equally weary hockey parents.

Let the kids tear it up at the hotel (with appropriate adult supervision of course), while you enjoy a quiet night in.

Show up for your kid on game day rested, refreshed, and ready to cheer your heart out.
