Summer is well underway, even though we seem to be having a record number of rainy days this year, including today.
It's been 9 years since Roger & I have taken ownership of our beloved home, The Montrose Inn Boutique B&B, and were so excited to start our 10th season in May of this year. As the weeks passed, we had great expectations of an excellent season with Afternoon Tea and overnight guests galore. Sadly, the reservations for both were well under our anticipated numbers, and we have suffered many cancellations due to weather and surprisingly some "no-shows". This is not the year for tourism it seems, and we understand that there are so many contributing factors to this, not just the weather.
We had to very quickly make some decisions regarding our business and its future. We have made some changes, drastic as it may seem to those on the outside, some of which are immediate, and some of which will be implemented at the end of the summer.
Effective immediately, we are offering one room to overnight guests, the Bernice Suite; it has a queen-sized bed, private bathroom, a/c and access to the semi-private second storey verandah, accompanied by our delicious, freshly prepared hot breakfasts. Reservations can still be made by telephone, booking on-line through our website (which is currently being updated to reflect our new services) or Booking.com.
We will no longer be offering the service of Afternoon or Cream Tea as of August 25th, 2024; most of you will know that we have changed our schedule for offering our four course Afternoon Tea on only the last Sunday of each month. Both July 28th and August 25th are fully booked. I will be following up with phone calls to everyone who has a reservation after August, to unfortunately cancel, including cancelling reservations for all of our Christmas Teas.
Until August 25th, we will continue to offer our Cream Tea every Friday and Sunday, by reservation, so there is still opportunity to enjoy our verandah and scenic view of the Bay of Quinte until then. Please call to make your reservations.
We will still have our Antique & Vintage Shoppe open and will be creating an on-line store, and regular business hours including by appointment.
Lastly, Roger & I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone, near and far, family and friends, who have supported us since our first day on this wild adventure in 2015. And we now look forward to the next chapter in our lives and The Montrose Inn.
Cheers!
