We’ll let you in on a little secret… we haven’t done nearly enough talking about our pet food section! 🐾❤️

Since adding our pet section, we’ve been quietly building a great selection of quality foods—and we’re still surprised by how many people don’t realize that Frontier (in Wiltondale) is a go-to local source for quality pet food this side of Corner Brook!

We love animals, and we believe good nutrition is one of the best things we can do for them. Feeding an overly processed diet every day is a lot like us eating fast food every day—they may love the taste, but a quality, properly balanced food can provide the nutrition they need to feel better, thrive, and often eat less because they’re actually getting what their bodies need.

And don’t worry if we don’t carry the exact brand you’re looking for! Our staff can help you find a quality alternative and work with you on the right transition food so you can make the switch comfortably.

Plus, we have a pet food loyalty program, so feeding better may cost less than you think! 🐶🐱

We’re proud to offer accessible, quality nutrition for the animals we love so much—and we think it’s about time we started telling you about it! ❤️

Come check out the pet food section at Frontier. You might be surprised by what’s waiting for you! 🐾

📢 A LITTLE REMINDER FROM FRONTIER!
Our store will be closing at 5:00 PM today, Monday, August 10th, as I head off for a follow-up medical appointment.
After the past few weeks, we’re keeping everything crossed for some good news so I can get back to work!🤞

Well... this definitely wasn't the summer adventure my oldest son and I had planned.

Two weeks ago, we headed off on a mini vacation, but instead of sightseeing and relaxing, we ended up on a completely different kind of adventure when I developed a severe and dangerous eye infection.

I was urgently sent to St. John's to be treated by one of the island's top eye surgeons. The prognosis wasn't particularly encouraging, and I spent the first week under strict medical supervision, taking eye drops every 15 minutes... yes, every 15 minutes... 24 hours a day. (I can now confidently say that alarm clocks and I are no longer on speaking terms.)

While there has been only limited improvement, my care has now been transferred to Corner Brook, allowing me to return home. I currently have no vision in my right eye and continue to deal with constant pain and enough light sensitivity to make a vampire seem outdoorsy. Unfortunately, that means my absence from the store isn't over just yet.

Through all of this, my Frontier family has absolutely blown me away.

My incredible staff, along with my family and friends, have stepped up in every possible way. They've taken on extra responsibilities, worked countless additional hours, solved problems before I even knew they existed, and somehow managed to keep everything running with smiles on their faces. Watching this team rally together has reminded me that Frontier has never just been a business—it's a family. I honestly couldn't have made it through these past two weeks without every one of them, and I will never be able to thank them enough.

To our amazing customers, thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support. You may still notice reduced hours from time to time as I need a chauffeur for my regular trips to Corner Brook (apparently driving with one eye is frowned upon... who knew?). Your kindness and flexibility have meant the world to us.

One small favour: if you've sent me an email, Facebook message, or text that I haven't replied to, please don't think I'm ignoring you. Staring at a screen right now is nearly impossible, so messages may be missed or replies may take much longer than usual. I promise I'm doing my best, one eye drop at a time.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone who has checked in, sent prayers, covered shifts, offered rides, brought coffee, or simply kept cheering me on. I am incredibly lucky to be surrounded by such an amazing team, wonderful friends, supportive family, and the best customers anyone could ask for.

The Frontier spirit is alive and well... even if the boss is temporarily operating in pirate mode. 🏴‍☠️

Here's hoping my next update involves two working eyes, a little less pain, and an actual vacation!
❤️ Jenn

🌾🚜 It's Hay Day at Frontier! 🚜🌾

It's one of our favourite days of the year... Hay Day! 🎉

The wagons are rolling, the hay is flying, and our animals have officially entered full excitement mode. The goats are convinced every bale belongs to them, the horses are supervising the operation (very seriously, of course), and the dogs are making sure everyone knows something exciting is happening. 🐐🐴🐶

We're still open as usual, but you may notice a few minor interruptions as we hustle to get the hay in before the rain decides to join the party—all while getting our cabins ready to welcome guests.

If you see a little extra commotion today, don't worry... it's just another Hay Day at Frontier! Thanks for your patience and for being part of the fun. 🌾💚

The summit of Gros Morne Mountain is now officially open to hikers! 🎉

Thanks so much for giving the ptarmigan and caribou some much-needed space at the beginning of their lives. 🫶 🦌

🚶‍♀️ Approach Trail
This 4.5 km trek to the base of the mountain features steady climbs and some of the most rewarding views in the park. It’s a great hike on its own, taking about 2.5 to 3.5 hours round trip. Not up for the full climb? Aim for the scenic waterfall halfway—it’s the perfect spot to pause and take it all in.

🏞️ Summit Trail
The Summit Trail is a strenuous 8 km loop beyond the Approach, with a 500 m elevation gain and rugged terrain. You’ll need 3–5 hours from the base—and that’s after completing the Approach Trail. This is a full-day hike for well-prepared, experienced hikers.

Before you go, safety first:
☑️ Only attempt the summit on a clear day—fog, wind, or rain can quickly make conditions dangerous
☑️ Bring at least 3 litres of water per person (5 litres on a hot day), hearty snacks, and a first-aid kit
☑️ Wear sturdy hiking boots (never flip flops) and dress in layers—weather changes fast at higher elevations. Don’t forgot sun protection- sun block and a hat go a long way on a hot day!
☑️ Start early to ensure you’re off the mountain well before dark
☑️ Cell service is limited—always let someone know your plan, and make sure to let them know when you’ve made it back safely

❗ Most importantly: Read all trail and safety information before choosing this route.

A small community, a big accomplishment. 🎓❤️

Today, Wiltondale celebrates its one and only graduate of 2026!

In a place like ours, milestones aren't just celebrated by family - they're celebrated by neighbours, friends, local businesses, and everyone who has watched a young person grow over the years. We all know that behind every graduation are years of hard work, challenges overcome, lessons learned, and countless people cheering from the sidelines.

While much of this journey was spent in a brick and mortar school, the final stretch was completed through homeschooling - a reminder that there is more than one path to success. What matters most is having the determination to keep moving forward and cross the finish line.

Being a graduating class of one makes this achievement even more special. It reminds us that every success matters and every dream is worth celebrating, no matter the size of the crowd.

From all of us at Frontier Cottages, and especially from your incredibly proud mother, congratulations on this incredible accomplishment. We are proud to celebrate this milestone with you and wish you all the happiness, opportunities, and adventures that lie ahead.

Congratulations, Graduate! 🎉🎓❤️

Last night was one of those unexpected farm moments ....

I had just gotten into my pajamas after a long, busy day when a neighbour called in a panic. Their goat was in labour, they couldn't reach a vet, and they had no experience with kidding. While I've helped deliver puppies and assisted plenty of animals over the years, goats were a first for me too!

After a long, stressful labour, a lot of encouragement, and more than a few nervous moments, this brave little doe delivered two beautiful, healthy kids. ❤️

I'm certainly not a veterinarian, but sometimes when animals need help, you roll up your sleeves, take a deep breath, and do your best. Thankfully, everything turned out well, and seeing these two little babies take their first breaths made every second worth it.

Mom is doing great, babies are doing great, and I may have fallen completely in love. 🐐🥰

It's amazing how quickly a quiet evening can turn into an unforgettable memory. Welcome to the world, little ones! ❤️
