Well... this definitely wasn't the summer adventure my oldest son and I had planned.
Two weeks ago, we headed off on a mini vacation, but instead of sightseeing and relaxing, we ended up on a completely different kind of adventure when I developed a severe and dangerous eye infection.
I was urgently sent to St. John's to be treated by one of the island's top eye surgeons. The prognosis wasn't particularly encouraging, and I spent the first week under strict medical supervision, taking eye drops every 15 minutes... yes, every 15 minutes... 24 hours a day. (I can now confidently say that alarm clocks and I are no longer on speaking terms.)
While there has been only limited improvement, my care has now been transferred to Corner Brook, allowing me to return home. I currently have no vision in my right eye and continue to deal with constant pain and enough light sensitivity to make a vampire seem outdoorsy. Unfortunately, that means my absence from the store isn't over just yet.
Through all of this, my Frontier family has absolutely blown me away.
My incredible staff, along with my family and friends, have stepped up in every possible way. They've taken on extra responsibilities, worked countless additional hours, solved problems before I even knew they existed, and somehow managed to keep everything running with smiles on their faces. Watching this team rally together has reminded me that Frontier has never just been a business—it's a family. I honestly couldn't have made it through these past two weeks without every one of them, and I will never be able to thank them enough.
To our amazing customers, thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support. You may still notice reduced hours from time to time as I need a chauffeur for my regular trips to Corner Brook (apparently driving with one eye is frowned upon... who knew?). Your kindness and flexibility have meant the world to us.
One small favour: if you've sent me an email, Facebook message, or text that I haven't replied to, please don't think I'm ignoring you. Staring at a screen right now is nearly impossible, so messages may be missed or replies may take much longer than usual. I promise I'm doing my best, one eye drop at a time.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone who has checked in, sent prayers, covered shifts, offered rides, brought coffee, or simply kept cheering me on. I am incredibly lucky to be surrounded by such an amazing team, wonderful friends, supportive family, and the best customers anyone could ask for.
The Frontier spirit is alive and well... even if the boss is temporarily operating in pirate mode. 🏴☠️
Here's hoping my next update involves two working eyes, a little less pain, and an actual vacation!
