October has arrived, and with it comes one of our favourite seasons in the Annapolis Valley. 🍂

There is something especially wonderful about this time of year — bright autumn sunshine, cool evenings, brilliant colour, and the extraordinary bounty of the Valley.

As we enter our second year at The Granville Affair, we’re feeling especially grateful.

Grateful for the warmth with which Bridgetown has welcomed us.

Grateful for the hundreds of wonderful guests who have stayed with us, shared stories around our table, and ventured out to discover the communities, landscapes, food and w**e that make this corner of Nova Scotia so special.

Fall feels like an invitation to slow down. To wander. To eat well. To explore a little further. And perhaps to return somewhere warm and welcoming at the end of the day.

There are few things more delightful than watching a house inspire a room full of writers.

This weekend, The Granville Affair had the pleasure — and the honour — of welcoming authors from Lockport to Bridgetown for a writers’ retreat filled with words, ideas, good food, and wonderful conversation.

They wrote.

They read.

They ate.

And, most importantly, they shared.

It was a magnificent evening of connection between the writers of Lockport and the writers of Bridgetown — a gathering of creative minds, stories, laughter, and inspiration.

We were especially tickled to see the The James House have such an effect on everyone. (Thank you Kelly for the immersive tour!) There is something about being surrounded by history, architecture, and the stories held within old walls that seems to invite a little more imagination into the room.

At The Granville Affair, we love the idea that our home can be more than a place to stay. It can be a place to gather, to create, to exchange ideas, and perhaps to discover a story that wasn’t there when you arrived.

What a pleasure.

What an honour.

And what a joy to watch the creativity unfold. ✨

NOOOOOOOO! 🍁

That first yelp of fall came ripping out of Spa Guy as we stumbled upon our very first tree changing colour while exploring the delightful countryside around us.

Apparently, he was not emotionally prepared.

It may be warm this week, but the Annapolis Valley is getting ready to explode into colour — and soon, every country road, cornfield and winding lane will be a feast for the eyes.

Spa Guy, meanwhile, has been informed that sweaters are not optional. 😂

This really is one of the most spectacular times of year to visit. Come rest for a few nights with us at The Granville Affair, wake to a hearty locally sourced breakfast, and set out with a full stomach and a camera ready.

From the Bay of Fundy to tall, golden cornfields… from winding country roads to that glorious first red maple of the season — there is wonder around every corner.

And if you happen to see Spa Guy wandering around in shorts, please don't encourage him.

Yikes. Labour Day is upon us — which means it’s officially time to pack away the white gloves and bring the fall hats down from the attic.

Sassy, naturally, is a stickler for the protocols of days gone by. 🎩

But there is one Labour Day tradition we can wholeheartedly get behind: welcoming the arrival of the most delicious two months in the Annapolis Valley.

The orchards are heavy with fruit, the markets are overflowing with fresh produce, the countryside is putting on its finest autumn colours, and the local shops are particularly tempting.

And then there is the very important business of doing absolutely nothing.

Curl up with a good book. Linger over breakfast. Wander through the house and take in the work of local artists. Let the day unfold at its own, wonderfully unhurried pace.

Spa Guy has been put in charge of the pots.

We’re not entirely sure what his management style entails, but there has been a great deal of overseeing, admiring, and—if we’re being generous—light supervisory activity.

As August comes to a close, The Granville Affair is positively burgeoning with blooms, with the pots in full flourish and a kaleidoscope of colour taking over the garden.

Inside, it’s cool, calm and decidedly easier-going—a lovely place to wind down after a day exploring the Bay of Fundy, wandering the local shops of Bridgetown, or simply doing a little less of absolutely everything.

Spa Guy will, of course, continue to supervise.

Results may vary. 🌿

We’ve just had a group cancellation for the long weekend in September, which means a few rooms have unexpectedly opened up for the last-minute planners among you.

Late August already? We can hardly believe it.

There’s something magical about this time of year in the Annapolis Valley. The fields are at their fullest, the Annapolis River moves steadily through the communities around us, and the Bay of Fundy offers a cool, refreshing escape when the summer sun lingers.

Yesterday, The Granville Affair was alive with laughter, conversation, and wonder as guests gathered to experience the work of and at our inaugural Art Soirée.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the evening so memorable. It was a pleasure to share these remarkable works with you.
