Yikes. Labour Day is upon us — which means it’s officially time to pack away the white gloves and bring the fall hats down from the attic.

Sassy, naturally, is a stickler for the protocols of days gone by. 🎩

But there is one Labour Day tradition we can wholeheartedly get behind: welcoming the arrival of the most delicious two months in the Annapolis Valley.

The orchards are heavy with fruit, the markets are overflowing with fresh produce, the countryside is putting on its finest autumn colours, and the local shops are particularly tempting.

And then there is the very important business of doing absolutely nothing.

Spa Guy has been put in charge of the pots.

We’re not entirely sure what his management style entails, but there has been a great deal of overseeing, admiring, and—if we’re being generous—light supervisory activity.

As August comes to a close, The Granville Affair is positively burgeoning with blooms, with the pots in full flourish and a kaleidoscope of colour taking over the garden.

Inside, it’s cool, calm and decidedly easier-going—a lovely place to wind down after a day exploring the Bay of Fundy, wandering the local shops of Bridgetown, or simply doing a little less of absolutely everything.

Spa Guy will, of course, continue to supervise.

Results may vary. 🌿

We’ve just had a group cancellation for the long weekend in September, which means a few rooms have unexpectedly opened up for the last-minute planners among you.

Late August already? We can hardly believe it.

There’s something magical about this time of year in the Annapolis Valley. The fields are at their fullest, the Annapolis River moves steadily through the communities around us, and the Bay of Fundy offers a cool, refreshing escape when the summer sun lingers.

Yesterday, The Granville Affair was alive with laughter, conversation, and wonder as guests gathered to experience the work of and at our inaugural Art Soirée.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the evening so memorable. It was a pleasure to share these remarkable works with you.

Something beautiful is unfolding at The Granville Affair...

The house is delightfully in chaos—a joyful symphony of colour, texture, and creativity—as we prepare to showcase the extraordinary work of two remarkable Nova Scotia artists: Deborah Misener and Yvonne Addington.

An Open House & Art Exhibition is taking shape, An "ART SOIRREE", and we can't wait to welcome you on Saturday August 15th!

Yvonne Addington's paintings are love letters to coastal Nova Scotia. Her villages, churches, wharves, and working harbours are more than landscapes—they are portraits of a way of life, where the tides set the rhythm, neighbours become family, and beauty is found not in grandeur but in familiarity. Her work reminds us that some of the richest places in the world are the quiet ones, where every road leads home and every horizon carries a promise.

Deborah Misener's palette knife paintings possess a remarkable emotional honesty. She doesn't simply paint flowers or shorelines—she paints atmosphere, memory, and feeling. Thick, sculptural layers of colour invite you to experience each piece before you even begin to study it.
