🌌 Northern Lights Blaze Across U.S. & Canada Tonight

A rare geomagnetic storm is electrifying skies across North America, painting them in dazzling green, purple, and crimson — stretching far beyond the Arctic Circle.

🔭 What’s happening?
This spectacle is fueled by a “cannibal CME” — when a faster solar eruption overtakes a slower one, merging into an unusually powerful blast. Slamming into Earth’s magnetic field, it triggered a G2–G3 geomagnetic storm (locally G4). As solar particles strike oxygen and nitrogen high above, the sky comes alive: oxygen glows emerald and red, nitrogen shines purple and pink.

🌍 Where it’s visible:
• Seen already across Canada, Alaska, and over 18 U.S. states — from Montana, the Dakotas, Wisconsin, Michigan, New York to rare sightings in Connecticut.
• Tonight (Sept 2–3), the storm peaks around midnight local time, with auroras expected to push into mid-latitudes — a rare chance for millions farther south.
