Choosing black drapery? Think about what happens when the stage lights come up. 🎭

A black fabric can look solid from the house, then allow more light through once it’s backlit.

With theatre season getting busy, that’s an important detail if the drape will be used for masking or light control.

Swipe through for a few things to think about before choosing fabric for your space.

Need help narrowing down the right option? Reach out to the Stagefab team and tell us how the drape will be used.

Choosing a colour for your stage drapery? 🧵

Once you start looking through fabric swatches, there can be a lot to choose from.

A good place to start is with the room itself. When the drapery is installed, how do you want the space to feel? Formal, understated, rich, simple?

Then think about the fabric, fullness and texture. Those details all affect how the finished drape will look in the space and can help narrow down the colour options.

Stagefab manufactures custom drapery locally in Burnaby for theatres, schools and performance spaces.

Some projects stay with you because of what happens in the space once everything comes together. ✨

We were grateful to have Stagefab drapery be part of the recent Gone Country Cancer fundraiser and to play a small role in setting the stage for a night that meant so much to so many.

Thank you to Twins Cancer Fundraising for allowing us to share these photos and for including Stagefab in a memorable evening.

Happy Birthday to Kim Bernard! ✨

Kim's the one keeping the numbers in line, the details accounted for, and the rest of us on our toes.
Wishing Kim a very happy birthday and, for one day at least, absolutely no spreadsheets. 🎂

Reminder: Not all flame-retardant fabric is made equally! 🎭

Whether it’s flame-retardant (FR) or inherently flame-retardant (IFR) fabric, it should withstand fire. But depending on the material, it won’t react the same way.

Both FR and IFR come in a variety of base textiles. Though designed to prevent fire from igniting on the material, some of these fabrics will melt when exposed to flame, while others will char or scorch, but won’t actually burn.

It’s worth noting the differences between FR and IFR, the maintenance differences, documentation requirements, and how the material you choose will react if it comes into contact with fire.

If you’re sourcing new drapery and are unsure whether FR or IFR fabric makes more sense, reach out to our team before you order at stagefab.com/contact 🪡

At Stagefab, we stand behind our clients, our team, and our work. ✨

Too often, we talk to people who wound up investing in drapes that fall apart within the first five years. That’s why we only sell drapery that we know will hold up in the long-term, and offer the highest level of customer service, attention to detail, and commitment to each client.

We’ve been in the industry long enough to understand the problems our clients face, and the best ways to approach solutions. And as a Canadian company, we take pride in working with local theatres, venues, institutions, and any other space that needs the elevation that drapery provides.

Like with so many other things, quality is key in stage drapery. We’re proud to create solutions that stand the test of time.

If you’re planning a custom drapery project, send your photos, rough measurements, and your ideal timeline, and our team will take it from there. ✂️

The best stage drapery setup is one you don’t notice at all. 🎭

It might seem counterintuitive, but it’s true: When drapery is doing its job, it melts away, elevating the space and the performance or event without stealing the show. That’s why we always recommend drapery for practical functions first, such as:

🧵 Framing a stage

🧵 Masking lights and other tech

🧵 Blocking sightlines

🧵 Adding a backdrop to a stage

🧵 Giving a venue a polished, professional feel

When your drapes fill these roles, it goes beyond a nice-looking setup and starts to truly work for your needs. If you need drapery that supports your space without taking over, contact Stagefab today. 🪡

At Stagefab, all of our drapery rentals are dry hire. We supply the drapery and rental hardware for your project, while setup is handled by your team or installer. Freight can also be arranged in some cases.

Planning a fall event? Send us the date, indoor venue, approximate dimensions, and what you need the drape to do. We’ll help you determine the right rental setup for your space.
