Have you ever been to a high school reunion?
How many of you still keep in touch with your high school pals?
Well, these guys did. 50 years after graduation.
We recently had the pleasure of welcoming the EMHS Class of 1976 to Hotel Blackfoot, and spending a little time around them made us think about just how powerful those connections can be.
There was something wonderful about watching people see each other again after so many years. The laughter came easily. One story would bring up another, and before long, everyone was remembering something that had happened decades ago — a teacher, a class, a joke, a favourite subject, a moment they had completely forgotten until someone else brought it back.
They even brought pieces of those school days with them.
A locker from the old school. A gym bag. A sweater with the school emblem. A sports shirt. A book from their learning program. And one beautifully kept notebook filled with lecture notes from a favourite subject.
Things that might look ordinary to anyone else, but suddenly meant so much when their stories were attached to them.
Then came the slideshow — old school photographs and archives filling the screen while the room filled with those little reactions: “Oh, I remember that!” “Look at us!” “Do you remember when…?”
And there they were, decades later, sitting around the same table, sharing a meal, listening to the music they grew up with and laughing with people who had been part of those formative years.
Some had brought their spouses. Some came with siblings. We even met a couple who started out as high school sweethearts.
It was one of those evenings that makes you realize how much of our lives are shaped by the people we meet along the way.
Thank you, EMHS Class of 1976, for letting us be part of your 50th reunion. It was a pleasure to witness so much friendship, laughter and history in one room. 💙
