We, Shirley and i, were thrilled by operations in our third year. Many more firsts with quests coming from across Canada and beyond. We were able maintain services by provision of freshly laundered linens {air dried}, tidy and clean shared spaces, and cozy spaces within and surrounding our Yurts. Shirley did a knock out job staying on top of the weeds along the trail and beyond. Work continues on clearing out alders and removing expired trees.
Thank you to all our guests for choosing Hostel 49 North and look forward to many more firsts, and meeting more families, groups, and people looking for a space to stay while adventuring within and through Central Newfoundland

What you may not know about this hostel is that it offers a unique sleeping experience inside one of the four 17ft diameter Yurts with a dome (a window to the sky above). As with all hostels, you just have to bring personal care items and grub. Cook on the Patio or inside the Lodge.
Great Central location just 31km from Nortre Dame Junction. Get a group of friends or family together and have the whole space to yourselves.

Describing the Yurt is what's on my mind. Like a book, they do not tell the story from the outside. Once you open the cedar door and glimpse inside you are flooded with light from above and streaming in from three large windows. With each of the four what you see through the windows is a unique close up picture of trees, shrubs, and sky and sunlight forever changing as the day moves along.
Once inside with the door closed it feels like being wrapped up in a wool blanket. The light grey of the wool lining surrounding the wall without corners makes one appreciate the design. Very special is hearing the songbirds and seeing them occasionally through a window or flying overhead.
Lastly, the sleep you are in for is as in "like a baby".

Operations for 2025 will start beginning the 16th May. Prices will be increased modestly and a deposit will be required. We have been busy doing some clearing which we trust will provide for more access nitches to hang out and appreciate the forested spaces.
Shirley and I are looking forward to many more firsts in the provision of affordable, comfortable and unique space for your relaxation, fun, and well deserved holiday adventures.
