Fun Fact Friday! Did you know that the first recorded Canadian Thanksgiving took place 43 years before the Pilgrim's meal in Plymouth? Martin Frobisher celebrated his crew's safe journey in what is now Nunavut in 1578. Canadian Thanksgiving is celebrated on the second Monday in October, more than a month earlier than the American Thanksgiving due to our earlier harvest at our higher latitudes. The Lodges wishes everyone and safe holiday weekend and we hope you take the time to give thanks!

Fun Fact Friday! 🍂 Did you know larches are conifers with a fall surprise! Their soft needles turn brilliant gold, then fall from the branches for winter. The display is brief in the Canadian Rockies, usually peaking from late September into early October. Mountain weather changes quickly in fall, so bring layers and check trail conditions before heading out. We encourage our guests and community to take time to listen to Indigenous voices, learn about the ongoing impacts of residential schools, and consider how we can support reconciliation today and throughout the year.

Fun Fact Friday! 👟 Did you know a Whistler man has set a new world record on the Icefields Parkway. At the end of August, we shared the news of his pending world record attempt. On Friday, August 28, Harry Marshall ran the 230-kilometre stretch of highway from Banff to Jasper in 30 hours, two minutes, breaking Sam Dickie's previous record of 31 hours and 38 minutes. The spectacular Icefields Parkway 🏔 is definitely worth a visit, but we recommend a car or bus for travel!

Did you know the Bow Valley is a fabulous place for biking? 🚴‍♀️ September is the perfect month to visit - cooler temps, blue skies and autumn leaves. 🍂 There are loads of great mountain biking trails, just a short distance from The Lodges. A bit further down the valley, if road riding is more your jam, the Bow Valley Parkway is car-free again. If you've been waiting for a sign to try it out, this is it!
