Paddle out before the lake gets busy, a slow drive through the valley with the windows down, a wander through downtown, and a soak in the hot tub once the sun starts dropping behind the peaks.

Most people only come here in winter. Summer might be the better season.

Sunshine Meadows is Banff Sunshine Village’s summer side — ride the gondola and chairlift up into alpine meadows exploding with wildflowers, wildlife sightings around every corner, and views that don’t need a summit to earn. Book a guided hike if you want the story behind what you’re walking through, roll out a mat for a Yoga in the Rockies class, or refuel at Mad Trapper’s Grill with a patio view that does most of the talking.

Confirm gondola hours and the yoga class schedule before you go, wear sunscreen and pack layers — alpine weather changes fast.

From Mount Revelstoke National Park to the lift-accessed trails at Revelstoke Mountain Resort, late July and August bring alpine meadows filled with colour.

Stay on marked trails, never pick the flowers and avoid stepping into the meadows for photos. Mountain conditions can change quickly, so bring layers, water and bear spray, and always check current trail conditions before heading out.

The view is Ha Ling Peak—and Canmore looks completely different from up here.

This local classic climbs steadily through the forest before opening onto panoramic views over Canmore, the Bow Valley and the surrounding peaks. At sunset, the entire valley catches the last of the light—but with 7.8 kilometres round trip and 810 metres of elevation gain, you will definitely have to earn it.

Save this one for your summer hiking list, pack more water than you think you need, always carry bear spray, and bring a headlamp if you are heading up later in the day. Mountain conditions can change quickly, so come prepared and know when to turn around.
