Fire ban is still in place for PEI after last night’s rain.

The open fire ban is still in effect for PEI as of 2025-08-18.

Even though we have gotten some rain, the province wide open burn ban remains in effect.

The ban on campfires and bonfires includes fires on private property as well at provincial parks and campgrounds.

Fines under the Forest Fire Prevention Act are enforced while a fire closure order is in place. Fines can reach up to $50,000, plus victims of crime costs. A person causing a fire may be liable for all damages arising from the fire.

What to do if you see smoke or fire nearby:
➡️CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY!
➡️If you don't know exactly where the fire is, try to get a good idea of your location and the direction you are pointing.
➡️Move any equipment or vehicles that may hinder the fire department's access.
➡️If the fire is off the road, go to the road to help direct the fire department.

What's Prohibited:
⛔️ Campfires are not allowed until the fire closure order is removed, regardless of the Fire Weather Index (FWI) or county burn restriction. This includes campfires in provincial parks, on public lands, private campgrounds, and private properties.
⛔️ Burning of ALL categories (1,2,3 & 4) are prohibited.
⛔️ All burning permits are suspended
⛔️ Fireworks are always prohibited, and all permits are suspended during an open fire ban
⛔️ All wood burning is prohibited, regardless of the appliance used.

What's Allowed:
✅Charcoal and propane barbeques are allowed. However, burning or smouldering charcoal briquettes must not be placed on the ground. After cooking, briquettes must be completely extinguished and ashes disposed of in a non-combustible storage device.
✅CSA approved propane fire bowls/pits. They must be well away from any combustible materials.
