We tip our hats to a great local business 🎩

Saskatchewan Conservation Officers recently delivered a donation that meant far more than the 326 pounds of ground elk meat they carried. For the Salvation Army in Prince Albert, still working from a temporary space after losing their building to a Christmas Day fire, this gift showed Saskatchewan’s true character – where neighbours step up, show compassion and lift one another up.

Two elk were illegally harvested near Prince Albert late last fall. After testing negative for Chronic Wasting Disease, the animals were approved for donation, turning an unfortunate act into something that helped feed hundreds of residents who rely on the Salvation Army’s meal programs.

To make this possible, the Conservation Officer Service partnered with Kyle Goosen, owner of Outback Butcher in Carrot River, who generously donated his time and labour to process the meat. His willingness to help ensured every pound was safely shared with those who need it most.
